Keeper of Sacred Law and Order, and Justice via Emotional Truth and Emotional Mastery
Varuna is one of the large trans-Neptunian and Kuiper belt object in astronomy and astrology, and a chief Vedic god and powerful king responsible for natural and moral order in the cosmos, justice and truth. Also, the Hindu god of water and the ocean. His vehicle is a Makara (crocodile) and his weapon is a Pasha (noose, rope loop). Varuna has many associations and writing about them all is not viable… We need to get to the heart of the matter, for the astrological significance. The Varuna (name in Sanskrit) of the Rigveda is the fountainhead of discrimination, and omnipotent wisdom. Varuna is the king who ensures order and harmony in all his realms. He was armed with the royal authority to judge men, to dispense justice and to impose punishments. He observed everything without any hinderance, had superior knowledge, and is omnipotent. Those powers and authority elevated Varuna to the lofty position of a true sovereign lord of the sky, of the earth and of all visible existence. Varuna was considered the god of the gods, and herein lies the problem in finding astrological meaning from the descriptions given to him. No other god has attributes as great as those assigned to him.
Varuna is one of the oldest Vedic deities of Hindu literature, being mentioned in the earliest hymns of the Rigveda. In the early Vedic religion (which was created and developed around 1500 BC in the region of present-day Pakistan and Afghanistan), Varuna was a chief god, one of the Aditias. Along with the gods Mithras and Ariaman, Varuna was part of the earliest known trinity of gods in the Vedic period (beginning around 1500 BC). In the Vedic scriptures, he is paired with the god Mitra and is the lord of Ṛta (justice) and Satya (truth).
Although Varuna himself would fade out of currency, his principles lived on, as RTA came to be understood as DHARMA in Hinduism. RTA in the Vedic religion is the principle of natural order which regulates and coordinates the operation of everything in the universe; revealing itself as a moral law governing and regulating human conduct. Violating this results in destruction or chaos, which is why Varuna bound the wicked, see the details in the articles listed below.
The bigger picture shows how benevolent universal law works, due to divine flow of the soul expressed through a healthy sentient human being. This despite the lashing out of the human ego in many, that cause injustice and what is known as ‘karma’, keeping many in suffering, samsara, the cycle of birth and rebirth, until they find release…
