Her legend shows that it is from the heart space of soul domain that an individual can create abundantly, and birth the new with ease, not from the mind… this eloquently shows the difference between higher expression Haumea, and the lower expression… Who really has the high honour and is in the right to shine brightly for their soul essence? With the time of discovery uncertain, the discovery chart shows Haumea in Libra conjunct Pallas Athena and Jupiter with a focus on balance and harmony, justice and fairness, and striving for equilibrium in life, especially as it pertains to a gassed up person in close proximity who perhaps want all the limelight seen as a benevolent leader in society, but who don’t have the wisdom to make wise choices that is in everyone’s best interest, as self-interest, abuse of power and over-indulgence prevails for a season (Haumea opposed to Eris). In her discovery chart, Haumea in Libra squares Varuna conjunct Sirius in Cancer, which amps up that desire for social justice and fairness, as it pertains to holding a kingly position (Sirius) and that leadership position resulting in either honour and exaltation when the leader carries integrity and maturity, or result in a fall from grace when abuse of power resulting from greed and win-at-all-cost battling, takes them down. The cultural story explains how Wakea (Haumea’s partner) went up to gather the abundant wild food that grew in the mountain forest. But he was caught with a bunch of forbidden ripe bananas and was captured by the guards of Kumuhonua, the Ali’i Nui of Oahu, for supposedly “stealing the kapu bananas”. These were wild-growing mountain bananas, ripe for the picking for the forest animals and anyone who would come upon them, but they were supposedly classified as under the Kapu system, which meant that they were not just for anyone to eat… by government direction. At first the guards tied Wakea’s hands and feet to carry him like a pig on a pole, but then let him walk down the mountain… where they had planned to cook him in the imu. The aliʻi were the traditional nobility. The word refers to a chief or chiefess and in the old days there were different social orders and types of aliʻi who had different responsibilities, for the welfare of the people, and the land. Chiefs were tasked to make good choices and serve the community, but not all of them were loved and generous as they ought to be. One was cruel and felt entitled... Kumuhonua and those around him chose not to live in pono (right relationship). Selfish AF. Haumea had a premonition that her beloved Wakea was about to be killed, and managed to save him just in the nick of time. Wākea had been taken and condemned to die for the ordinary act of gathering food
in the forest. Food that is free for the forest creatures to eat… This is gross demoralisation, unfairness and injustice from an unbalanced leader. This story is a metaphor for the issues in life where people in positions of authority, with hidden insecurities and dark aspects, want to control and dictate the narrative from their own lack of integrity with themselves. Practicing pono entails living with a conscious decision to do right by yourself and others, which can lead to everyone in society being content and happy, having their basic needs met.
When one is practising Kuleana, the person is practicing responsibility and accountability in their daily life. In Hawaiian culture, Kuleana means to have broader sense of responsibility to themselves and their community. And it means taking liability for your actions. The lower expression in human relationship, shows that there is toxicity that can be generated by trickery and shenanigans; they have consequences, and can keep people stuck energetically. What we do to others in relation and our land, affects our spiritual well being, because we are all part of the same Universal Spiritual Force; it exists in all things. Fertility is a highly important concept in ancient sea-fairing Polynesian culture. Haumea had a branch called the makalei, which is symbolic of providing various food sources abundantly, from nature’s generous capital and wealth, which is meant for everybody, not only for a selected few who self-elect themselves into positions of power that they don’t deserve.
In Hawaii nature is lush, green, giving and provides abundantly in the needs of its inhabitants, however, in MakeMake’s mythology, Rapa Nui island’s climate changed due to human activities and mismanagement of natural resources, which meant that nutrient-dense foods like the egg, became paramount for fertility, on multiple levels. Rapa Nui culture of the time, before near total societal/environmental collapse, worshipped MakeMake (pronounced MakeiMakei), the bird god, and this has strong correlation to Haumea’s makalei and Hawaii, who are likely their forefathers.
In the higher expression, Haumea’s stories is about the kuleana (responsibility) to create pono (balance, justice and righteousness in relation in community). It is about keeping the waters clean, purity, and forgiveness to enable blossoming abundance. Virtuous Haumea seems to point out the tremendous innovation utilised to create or reshape the world, just like Eris and Sedna. Haumea is metaphysical studies grounded, and the divine in the human body realised. When we turn inwards and look long enough, we will find our own inner inexhaustible nourishment. Haumea energy carries the poverty versus abundance polarity, just like many of the other TNOs and KBOs.
The Sabian symbol for Haumea in her discovery chart is the imagery of children blowing soap bubbles. There is merriment in fun, creative play and frivolity, however when one stays immature, insincere and words don’t carry serious meaning and remains just meaningless prattle, one has to learn that one’s bubble can burst. Children in paradise can enjoy themselves, but there are consequences when one fail to appreciate the benefit of maturing, gaining wisdom, remaining lighthearted and still being able to life through the eyes of a child. Both Haumea’s story, and the story of Disney’s Moana illustrates this beautifully. In its discovery chart, Haumea at 12 degress Libra conjunct Jupiter is about the great optimism of living a socially just life, square to fixed star Sirius conjunct object Varuna in Cancer, which is about needing to employ emotional truth (Varuna & Cancer) in situations of leadership, and how one is seen in a ‘kingly’ position. HAUMEA SQUARE PLUTO
In November 2022, trans-Neptunian object Haumea moved into new zodiac sign Scorpio for the first time after a very long sojourn in the sign of the scales Libra, but she will retrograde back into Libra in April 2023, to finally settle in Scorpio in 2024. Haumea is the egg / flattened rugby ball shaped trans-Neptunian object discovered in 2004. Haumea is the apex for the Haumea Yod, with Neptune in Pisces/Aries sextile Sedna in Taurus/Gemini. Eris also plays a part as the Boomerang reaction point from time to time, as Eris is conjunct Jupiter, Chiron and eventually Saturn. The Haumea Yod concludes in 2028. Haumea is also in a long term square with Pluto, occasionally making a Hammer of Thor apex when in tight square, when a transiting planet moves into the mid degrees of Gemini.
