Orcus in the Astrological Sky and Violations against Divine Order

The better path is to go by on the other side towards justice; for Dike (Justice) beats Hybris (Outrage) when she comes at length to the end of the race. But only when he has suffered does the fool learn this. For Horkos (Horcus, Oath) keeps pace with wrong judgements.”
— Hesiod, Works and Days 218 ff

The content creator became interested in Orcus after false judgements, psychological projections, the breaking of commitments, and lies were told that seems to have been believed by a large group of associates.

It happened during the Eris square Pluto transits when Eris in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn was making a tight square aspect at around 24 degrees each, and making a Hammer of Thor aspect out of Orcus at 10/11 degrees Virgo. This is detailed as an example in the Haumea Yod online course. This was utilised as an example because during the seven years that Haumea will be the apex of a Yod 2022 - 2028, there will be two Hammer of Thor aspects in the astrological sky - for the entire time - also smiting two particular hotspot areas at the apex point. Forever making changes in that area of life…

The Hammer of Thor on Orcus was epic energy… as the smite certainly sent everyone packing for the underworld (coronavirus lockdowns)…

Define Smite
1. to attack or destroy by hitting, with a hand held weapon;
2. to hit or damage by hitting with force;
3. to inflict sharply with great feeling;
4. to hit someone with sudden great force;
5. to injure, strike down or slay.
— Various Online Sources

Thor's Hammer is a highly volatile, dynamic aspect pattern in the astrological sky, because any “nozzle” planet at the apex, or inverse midpoint, will be the key to expression of the energy. The tension-filled energy that smoulders between the two square planets, finds a powerful outlet if there is a third planet at this particular apex point. This means the apex planet must find a creative way to resolve the conflict of the square, or else it could vent that tension destructively. Kuiper belt objects (Eris, Haumea, MakeMake, Quaoar, Orcus) are now classified as being in the same league as Pluto, and as we know, Pluto may be small and far away, but potent in influence… Sedna is not a Kuiper belt object but has proven herself to be extremely potent energy, because Sedna carries both a Hammer of Thor and a Yod aspect pattern in her discovery chart, with one planet on the apex.

Image: An amulet, "silver strongly gilt", representing the hammer of Thor. Found in 1877 in Skåne, Sweden. via Wikimedia Commons. This Hammer of Thor pendant was often worn by the Vikings and Scandinavians as an amulet of protection.

A Hammer of Thor aspect pattern smites whatever lies at the apex point, and in this case it was Orcus, bounding the inhabitants of earth for the underworld. The Hammer of Thor on its own is a potentially destructive force, but on Orcus - a Kuiper belt object - it was potent.

Who is Orcus in Mythology and in Modern Reality?

Orcus was a god of the Underworld and punisher of broken promises in Etruscan and Roman religion.

According to Wikipedia, the origins of Orcus may have lain in Etruscan religion, that were heavily influenced by the mythology of ancient Greece, and sharing similarities with concurrent Roman mythology and religion.

Orcus had many associations with other underworld gods such as Pluto, Hades, Horkos, Dis-pater, etc.

As with Hades, the name of the god was also used for the underworld itself. In the later tradition, he was conflated with Dis Pater. The name “Orcus” seems to have been given to the malicious and punishing side of the ruler of the underworld, as the god who tormented evildoers in their afterlife. Like the name Hades, “Orcus” could refer both to the underworld itself, as well as its ruling deity. In the charitable interpretation for such a place, it was believed to be an abode for purification of the souls of the deceased.

From Orcus' association with death and the underworld, his name came to be used for demons and other underworld monsters. However, a more modern interpretation can be found in the stories of multiple other underworld gods and goddesses on this website. They describe individuals who went deep inside themselves - into their own unknown - to root out the distortions of truth that they had held onto. Also, the illusions or delusion they may have held about themselves and others, metaphorically dying to the old scripts. Also allowing the seeing of the blindspots that had kept them ‘blind’, and in effect. By illuminating the blindspot, it in effect eliminates it, also healing the negative self-image in this process. The underworld isn’t so bad when you are not in denial anymore… In fact, there is peace when monsters no longer haunt you into seeing the truth that you are hiding from, inside yourself… The scary internal landscape that many people fear to go into, stirs fear only until the unknown is explored, then no more… Bogey men gone.

There is an actual cave close to Bomarzo (Italy), the so-called “Tomb of Orcus”, and although this monument is a misnomer, there seems to have once been such a temple or abode for purification of the souls in the underworld.

It is curious that in terms of the date of discovery, the planetary energy falls between Sedna, who goes into the underworld to become a goddess, and Haumea, who is able to regenerate and transform herself with ease, having already been purified… The online course titled Haumea Yod describes in detail the importance of how the discovery date of the brightest of the dwarf planets, entails progression, the introduction, and expression of new energies into our collective. We’ve certainly seen lots of that since CoVid started, and the seven year yod with Haumea at the apex shows this is likely to continue…

Kuiper Belt Object / Dwarf Planet Orcus and Moon Vanth:

Image: Orcus compared to Earth and Moon. via Wikimedia Commons.

According to Wikipedia, Orcus was discovered on 17 February 2004, by American astronomers Michael Brown of Caltech, Chad Trujillo of the Gemini Observatory, and David Rabinowitz of Yale University. Precovery images taken by the Palomar Observatory as early as 8 November 1951 were later obtained from the Digitized Sky Survey.

The minor planet Orcus was named after one of the Roman gods of the underworld, Orcus. While Pluto (of Greek origin) was the ruler of the underworld, Orcus (of Etruscan origin) was a punisher of the condemned. The name was published by the Minor Planet Center on 26 November 2004.

Under the guidelines of the International Astronomical Union's (IAU) naming conventions, objects with a similar size and orbit to that of Pluto are named after underworld deities.

Accordingly, the discoverers suggested naming the object after Orcus. The name was also a private reference to the homonymous Orcas Island, where Mike Brown's wife had lived as a child and that they visit frequently. On 30 March 2005, Orcus's moon, Vanth, was named after a winged female demon of the Etruscan underworld. She could be present at the moment of death, and frequently acted as a psychopomp, a guide of the deceased to the underworld.

Astronomer Mike Brown and fellow discoverers were initially extremely puzzled by the wild synchronistic similarities between Pluto and Orcus, especially the intertwined pattern that the two orbits form, that resembles a vesica pisces pattern seen from above perspective. They are like two peas in a pod, but like different aspects of the same thing… Like Yin and Yang.

Below is an image showing the unique motion of Orcus and Pluto in a rotating frame with a period equal to Neptune's orbital period. (Neptune is held stationary.) Orcus is a plutino in a 2:3 mean motion resonance with Neptune. Pluto is grey and Orcus is red. Neptune is the white (stationary) dot at 5 o'clock. Uranus is blue, Saturn yellow, and Jupiter red. There are 41 frames each having 3*164.8 years (3 times Neptunes orbital period).

The image to the right demonstrates three different orbits. The yellow line is the ecliptic. This is the line that all the other major planets, are aligned with. Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune all have orbits which lie very nearly in this same plane. The grey line is Neptune that orbits in the same line. Orcus is the blue line, and Pluto the red. The image shows how Orcus moves in one direction at a jaunty angle to the main planets at the ecliptic (the yellow line), and Pluto moves at a similar but opposite angle to the main planets.

Orcus takes 245.19 years and Pluto takes 248 years to orbit the Sun. Yet, each has such a similar orbital period and are very roughly 120° apart, with Pluto ABOVE the plane of the classical planets (called the Ecliptic) and Orcus BELOW it. How curious! Pluto was discovered in 1930, and Orcus in 2004.

Astrologer Alison Chester-Lambert writes that there are other similarities, too. Pluto is closer to the Sun than Neptune when he is at the top of his oval-shaped orbit as is Orcus when he is at the top of his. Pluto has a large moon called Charon, and their two faces are locked towards each other as if they have an invisible shaft between them. So does Orcus and his moon, Vanth. All of this so intrigued the imagination of the survey leader, Mike Brown that he he dubbed Orcus the “anti-Pluto”. He said of the Orcus myth that he read:

“Orcus was, essentially, the early Etruscan grim reaper, collecting the dead and bringing them to the Underworld where Pluto ruled……(then) Orcus lost his separate identity and Pluto became the master of all the functions of the dead……..In my new mythological/astronomical view, Pluto the KBO is now named after that earlier version of Pluto, before the Romans came along and swept everything together. And Orcus is his counterpart, destined to eventually be pushed aside by the rising Pluto.”

Plutinos

Pluto, Ixion, Orcus, Huya, and Lempo are some of the brightest, named Plutinos.

In astronomy, the plutinos are a dynamical group of trans-Neptunian objects that orbit in 2:3 mean-motion resonance with Neptune. This means that for every two orbits a plutino makes, Neptune orbits three times. The dwarf planet Pluto is the largest member as well as the namesake of this group. The next largest members are Orcus, (208996) 2003 AZ84, and Ixion. Plutinos are named after mythological creatures associated with the underworld. The image below shows the Plutino distributions and sizes, click here for a list of Plutinos.

Astrological Symbol or Glyph for Orcus:

According to Wikipedia, the symbol for Orcus is an O-R monogram for Orcus, stylised to resemble a skull and an orca's grin. Creator Denis Moskowitz writes on his website that object 90482 Orcus is a Kuiper Belt object discovered in 2004.

“It was named after the Roman god Orcus. Orcus was a god of the dead, and may have been the namesake of the orca (also known as the killer whale), so I combined the Roman letters O and R into a symbol that has some resemblance to a skull and to an orca's grin.”

Orcus the Bearded Giant / Monster and Smiting that Monster

The origins of Orcus may have lain in Etruscan religion, which some scientist claim was a highly civilised.

The so-called “Tomb of Orcus”, an Etruscan site at Tarquinia, is a misnomer, resulting from its first discoverers mistaking a hairy, bearded giant for Orcus; it actually depicts a mythological Cyclops, see the image to the right, click to enlarge.

Image: Shrek via WikiMedia Commons.

Orcus seems to have been frequently associated with other underworld figures, perhaps because a monster is a monster... and people were afraid of the unknown.

Acccording to Wikipedia, from Orcus' association with death and the underworld, his name came to be used for demons and other underworld monsters, particularly in Italian where orco refers to a kind of monster found in fairy-tales that feeds on human flesh. The French word ogre (appearing first in Charles Perrault's fairy-tales) may have come from variant forms of this word, orgo or ogro; in any case, the French ogre and the Italian orco are exactly the same sort of creature.

Orcus was usually seen as a large, bearded giant. According to this article on the mythology, as a punisher of those who broke their word, Orcus was extremely scary. He was described as carting men by force into the underworld and imprisoning them. He was often shown as having his mouth open, probably connected to the idea of oaths and promises. Also, like in the pictures shown, his mouth was used as entrance way, probably to the underworld. His role was to torment any soul that was evil and broke their oaths. Orcus reportedly had an ugly appearance and that lend to his evolution into a role of being the more brutal aspect of Pluto in later Rome. This evolution led to the creation of the words Ogre and Orch, which refer to fairy-tale monsters that usually eat human flesh.

It is interesting to see how fairy tales have evolved over the years. In more modern times, movies have exposed children to monsters with a different approach. Many children are more easily able to recognise when their parents use the fear of monsters to try to control them, or get them to do something they don’t want to do. Thanks to movies, they are more easily able to see beyond the illusions that people may try to lay in front of them, to keep them stuck and bound to illusions or untruths.

In the past, adults, parents or authority figures may have tricked a vulnerable child into making promises, with threats of monsters if they do not keep their word. Today, many children are not buying into those illusions anymore, knowing it is a trick to get one over on another for a (often selfish) personal gain.

Movies like Shrek and Monsters Inc. shows that many children are able to look at monsters for what they are, when they have done some maturing. Some also have a remarkable ability to see beyond the denial, delusions, and irrational fears of adults, seeming to have an innate knowing that the underworld is only scary, when you are in some denial, cling to old conditioning, outdated beliefs, or are in fear of looking the unknown straight in the eyes. More children are in an authentic state of being than perhaps ever before; of actually being able to teach their parents a thing or two about reality and truth… See the image below, of the child from the movie Monsters Inc. smiting the monster, while confidently smiling, knowing that she is not falling for the bullshit, nor shenanigans of its establishment; to pull the wool over another’s eyes for some self-serving gain… (in the movie the monsters draw energy - like an energy vampire - off of the loud screams of frightened children, deliberately).

It is curious that Pluto was finally classified as a dwarf planet, along with all the other new trans-Neptunian objects like Kuiper belt objects and OOrt cloud objects, after the discovery of MakeMake finally had the International Astronomical Union (IAU), make this rather drastic but necessary change.

The Kuiper Belt objects (and trans-Neptunian dwarf planets in general) bring hope, change, expanded thinking, soul purpose, and quantum leaps into our consciousness.

Orcus takes 245.19 years and Pluto takes 248 years to orbit the Sun, yet Pluto was discovered in 1930, and Orcus in 2004.

It would seem that this reclassification, along with all the other newly discovered planets whose stories are associated with the underworld, makes this a prominent time to be exploring the underworld.

Cut the crap, get out of denial, and see where you hold illusions that you thought were true, but are now crumbling like The Tower card in the tarot… Many people carry untruths and lies inside themselves, that they did not even know about until the foundation tumbles and the truths are revealed…

As it relates to this website, the trans-Neptunian objects are about pulling the shadow side into the light, for the potential of a powerful transformation. It’s about the spiritual underpinnings of the actions we take against other people, that defile divine order.

The Sacred Gift of Re-Evaluation while sitting in the Underworld

Other stories on this website describe how the experience of sitting in the underworld may be a valuable phase in life, and time well spent if one decide to take it as a sacred gift.

There is an opportunity to examine false investment in certain beliefs. To take the opportunity to purge the falsehoods, for valuable purification of what is no longer of use.

Their energies harmonized and blended together crate transformation in the highest sense. Pluto without Orcus would leave a path of destruction, and Orcus with out Pluto could never really build anything on a sound foundation, because it would have no foundation, Pluto wouldn’t have come along and bulldozed space for Orcus.

While Pluto works to destroy all that would impede you from being able to express your spirit into form, Orcus on the other hand works to bring all those things into your life that will assist you, and support you in being able to express your spirit in form.
— Astrologer Arwen McLaughlin

Many ancient cultures venerated going through the experience of the underworld, but there was, and still is also a great deal of fear of being consumed by it as well, for only the most patient make it to the other side transformed, renewed, born again as a new, vibrant being. Pluto and Orcus are both associated with this experience.

Astrologer Arwen McLaughlin explains in her video, that Pluto destroys what is not in divine template, and Orcus rebuilds in divine template. "Where Pluto was only concerned about destroying the old building built on concepts of in-authenticity, Orcus is concerned only with rebuilding the building – but this time in its authentic divine blueprint form." Both are for ‘the good of all’. She says that Orcus is the vibration of the alchemist. What a beautiful image! Together, these energies work together beautifully indeed.

Pluto is the old energy that destroys itself by wiping the slate clean, and Orcus is the process in the underworld of discovering truths, that enables the solid foundation for the rebuilding, elevation and edification. Where Pluto is the destroyer, Orcus is more the psychopomp that takes people into the underworld with a particular potential in mind; rebirth.

The Orcus Mouth in the Sacred Grove of Bomarzo, Italy

The garden Parco dei Mostri was created 500 years ago during the 16th century, but according to Wikipedia, Orcus has its origins in medieval times, therefore the statue below was just one of the many elements from mythology, that the commissioner of the artwork wanted installed. It was rather unheard of, modern, and revolutionary at the time. It is about 92km north of Rome.

According to Wikipedia, Orcus with its mouth wide open and on whose upper lip it is inscribed "OGNI PENSIERO VOLA" ("All Thoughts Fly"), which is illustrated by the fact that the acoustics of the mouth mean that any whisper made inside is clearly heard by anyone standing at the

base of the steps. Art historian Luke Morgan describes this sculpture as "The Hell Mouth" and notes that people dined in it, producing the effect of simultaneously eating and being eaten; this duality is representative of 16th century "monsters" in Italian gardens. The Hell Mouth is also only a fragment of a whole body, and thus grotesque.

This article describes how an Italian duke created the Park of Monsters, filled with stone creatures, as a way of coping with his wife’s death. It shows how sudden massive change, loss or abandonment can send a person in the darkness of their own underworld, to face the many emotions and mental torment there.

Pier Francesco “Vicino” Orsini, born in 1523, was a patron of the arts, or condottiero, and the Duke of Bonzaro.

Image: Mythological Pegasus via Wikimedia Commons.

“In the mid-1500s, Orsini’s privileged life took a dark turn. As a general in the Pope’s army during the Italian Wars, he engaged in violent military campaigns; during a battle in Artois, a town in northern France near the border of Germany, his commander and close friend, Orazio Farnese, was killed. Orsini himself was captured by the Germans, and spent several years enduring who knows what as a prisoner of war. Upon Orsini’s release and his return to Bomarzo, he distanced himself from formal religion. He converted to Epicureanism, a philosophy devoted to simple pleasures as defined by the absence of pain and the advocacy of a moderate life, and surrounded himself with artists, writers, and other creative people.”

“Together with the Papal architect and Renaissance garden designer Pirro Ligorio, Orsini began laying out plans for Sacro Bosco in 1552. But Orsini rejected the customs of the time. Instead of neat symmetry, restrained hedgerows, ornate fountains, and heroic Roman gods, he had a more turbulent and modern vision. For starters, Orsini left the native trees and shrubs in place. He filled the garden with stone creatures more from a nightmare than a dream. The macabre sculptures he commissioned were scattered about the acreage in a seemingly random fashion… An octagonal Temple of Eternity is devoted to his beloved wife, Giulia Farnese, who died shortly after his release from prison. Some say Orsini created the garden as a way of coping with his grief.”

To the left is a sculpture of the mythological Pegasus that is part of the story of Medusa, and the astromythology of malefic fixed star Algol.

Algol is about immense mental and emotional turmoil, and with Pegasus being part of the story, the potential to be born again a new creature of divine integrity, beauty, and freedom.

Algol will play a massive part in the astrology of the next seven years as part of the Yod with Haumea at the apex; find information about this in the Haumea Yod online course.

During the 19th century, and deep into the 20th, the garden became overgrown and neglected, but the park was made famous by artist Salvador Dali, who made a movie about the park in 1948, and referenced the sculptures in a later painting. He reportedly found the surreal nature of Parco dei Mostri highly appealing. This interest led to the wealthy local Bettini family undertaking restoration measures. Today the beautiful park is a flourishing tourist destination, that people can appreciate.

The Duke chose a variety of creatures from mythology, and the statue below of Neptune, king of the ocean shows just how deep his emotions were. This garden filled with statues that had personal meaning for him, and may have given a man with an artistic and feeling soul comfort and peace at the time.

Sabian Symbol for Orcus

25 Degrees Leo: “A camel crossing the desert.”

In the discovery chart, Orcus is at 24 degrees Leo, which translates to 25 degrees. The image of a camel crossing a desert carries symbols of enduring a great journey with a very distant goal in mind, that feels unending as the dunes all look the same, yet there is innate perseverance. It is a metaphor for how the human heart is put to the test to push ahead in the most difficult circumstances, and be refined by moving forward despite many challenges and experiences of life. Camels are creatures who if they are sufficiently hydrated, have the reserves to be self-sufficient and balanced. They can carry a heavy load, cross great distances, and get to their destination. Camels carry within them the ‘living water’ that they need to sustain themselves, without need for others. They tend to travel in groups, but a camel has what it takes to prosper alone in the wilderness. They are in tune with the rhythms of life and very poised, having a confidence that they can cross a desert where others would not be able to sustain themselves.

Eris Square Pluto Smite Orcus?

What would Eris in Aries square Pluto in Capricorn look like in terms of making a Hammer of Thor aspect, that smited Orcus in Virgo?

We know that this aspect smote everyone into coronavirus lockdown and isolation, but on a deeper meaning and closer look, what are the dynamics behind this?

Pluto is in Capricorn, and had conjunctions with Saturn and Jupiter, which stirred the Capricorn establishments, like government, religion, organisations, the courts of law etc. into re-evaluating the rot (Pluto) in the system (Capricorn) and what changes need to be made. Eris in Aries is the whistle-blower and the person who is expert at seeing the spokes in the wheel that drive the corrupt systems, and the narcissistic individuals who serve themselves at the expense of others, marginalising, disadvantaging and using them. Often for a selfish and self-centered gain. The tension between Pluto and Eris is, that the system needs to change, and Pluto is known for driving this in a powerful potent way, but the system wants to silence the whiste-blower, who they know can see what they are doing. Eris in Aries is the advocate for the individual who are being harmed by the system and establishment who want to continue to get one over on others. Eris is also representative of individuals like hackers, social engineers, and individuals who want to expose the truth. Innately, both Pluto and Eris are energies that look deeply and want for the truth to come out. This is the tension that - when the square aspect is exact - and there is a planet at the release valve, hurtles with power to smite. The smiting in this case is done on Orcus in Virgo.

Orcus in Virgo

In Virgo, Orcus is a stickler for the importance of detail, and advocates for the fine print, the scientific evidence, and all the information that backs up the credibility of work that had perhaps been meticulously done, perhaps over many years. Both the zodiac sign of Virgo, and the energy of Orcus, is about going, and having gone the distance and endured to achieve something of value.

Orcus Negative Traits

Orcus or Horkos is about the guardian of an oath, the breaking of a promise or a pledge, wrongful judgements made, words used wrongfully against another, word-play, gaslighting, psychological twisting of truth, falsifying or bringing dishonour to something that was made in solemn pact or loyalty.

Negative Orcus is being hypocritical, judgemental and fault finding in the ways of others. It entails assigning blame, and not taking responsibility for ones words and actions. It’s about being unable to honour commitment.

Since coronavirus started, many people have spent time in isolation reconsidering prior investments and loyalties to day jobs, partnerships or friends that many have since decided to leave, perhaps because those things had no sincere commitment in them either…

Define Oath:
1. promise
2. pledge
3. affirmation
4. word of honour
5. witness to the truth
6. allegiance, pact, loyalty
7. commitment.
— Various Online Sources

Some things that had seemed steadfast in the past, had received the crushing death blow from the Hammer of Thor on Orcus in Virgo.

Allegiances and loyalties were lost, and perhaps wrong judgements were made, and now it is the end of the old. For some time to be spent in the underworld, for new life to rebirth… eventually.

Re-evaluation of Life and the Search for Sovereignty and Truth

Now that the start of coronavirus has led to a great cut off from the old, and everything has changed, what are people experiencing?

No doubt there are great planetary changes. There are also great energy dynamics at play.

We are diving deeper and deeper into changes that affect the family unit, the workplace, the way food is grown and distributed, and the cost of living. As a result, more diverse perspectives have risen to the surface, that people may have never considered before.

The energy dynamics entail stepping into personal human sovereignty, that is derived from releasing themselves from their old scripts.

One of the most challenging current aspects for people to accept, is self-responsibility, and accountability for self. This entails not accusing a government or other people for their perceived lack of freedom. It entails recognising that they are free, when they release themselves from the old stories, old dictates and old scripts. It is being a sovereign being, and being free in your own energy and in your own inner truth.

There is a new online course about the trans-Neptunian and Kuiper Belt Objects involved in the strange mixed bag of energies we've been having since the start of 2020, with some stretching beyond 2030.

  • The Gonggong Yod is all about the massive chaos caused by floods, too much rain and landslides.

  • The Sedna Yod is about the respect for people, animals and the natural world being violated and betrayed, and how the natural world can come back to bite. When the WHO announced a global health emergency on 31 January 2020, Haumea in Libra was sextile to Ixion in Sagittarius making a Yod apex on Sedna and malefic fixed star Algol.

  • The Varuna Yod is about sacred law and order, justice and truth in the cosmos that needs to return.

  • The Haumea Yod is about the wild abundance and providence of nature that can be created when appropriate governmental structures support benevolence for all.

  • The MakeMake square Quaoar aspect is about is about the smite that the Hammer of Thor apex makes in Taurus smiting things Taurus, perhaps into oblivion. Curiously, both this Hammer apex and the Sedna Yod makes apexes in Taurus, which is the sign of the bull. Together they are creating massive upset and change in agriculture, the natural world, earth matters, and with cattle; with the recent threat of foot and mouth disease in Australia a great example of the manifestation of this energy. Go to courses for more information.
