Orcus, Horkos and The Breaking of Commitments and Wrong Judgements against Divine Order

This article contains complementary information from the second online course about trans-Neptunian and Kuiper Belt Objects. It is about the significant four Yods and the three Hammer of Thor aspect patterns that influences us here on planet earth from 2020 - 2030+.

The new course is all about the strange mixed bag of energies we’ve been having since the start of 2020.

Orcus in the Astrological Sky and Violations against Divine Order

The better path is to go by on the other side towards justice; for Dike (Justice) beats Hybris (Outrage) when she comes at length to the end of the race. But only when he has suffered does the fool learn this. For Horkos (Horcus, Oath) keeps pace with wrong judgements.
— Hesiod, Works and Days 218 ff

The content creator became interested in Orcus after wrong judgements, psychological projections, the breaking of commitments, and lies were told, that seems to have been believed by a large group of associates.

It happened during the Eris square Pluto transits when Eris in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn was making a tight square aspect at around 24 degrees each, and making a Hammer of Thor aspect out of Orcus at 10/11 degrees Virgo. This is detailed as an example in the The Pentagram of Change online course. This was utilised as an example because, there will be two more Hammer of Thor aspects in the astrological sky - for the entire time - also smiting two particular hotspot areas at the apex point. Forever making changes in that area of life…

The Hammer of Thor on Orcus was epic energy… as the smite certainly sent everyone packing for the underworld (coronavirus lockdowns)…

Define Smite
1. to attack or destroy by hitting, with a hand held weapon;
2. to hit or damage by hitting with force;
3. to inflict sharply with great feeling;
4. to hit someone with sudden great force;
5. to injure, strike down or slay.

Thor's Hammer is a highly volatile, dynamic aspect pattern in the astrological sky, because any “nozzle” planet at the apex, or inverse midpoint, will be the key to expression of the energy. The tension-filled energy that smoulders between the two square planets, finds a powerful outlet if there is a third planet at this particular apex point. This means the apex planet must find a creative way to resolve the conflict of the square, or else it could vent that tension destructively. Kuiper belt objects (Eris, Haumea, MakeMake, Quaoar, Orcus) are now classified as being in the same league as Pluto, and as we know, Pluto may be small and far away, but potent in influence… Sedna is not a Kuiper belt object but has proven herself to be extremely potent energy, because Sedna carries both a Hammer of Thor and a Yod aspect pattern in her discovery chart, with one planet on the apex.

A Hammer of Thor aspect pattern smites whatever lies at the apex point, and in this case it was Orcus, bounding the inhabitants of earth for the underworld.

The Hammer of Thor on its own is a potentially destructive force, but on Orcus - a Kuiper belt object - it was potent…

Who is Orcus in Mythology and in Modern Reality?

Image: Yggdrasil, a modern attempt to reconstruct the Norse world tree which connects the heavens, the earth and the underworld, via Wikimedia Commons.

Orcus was a god of the Underworld and punisher of broken promises in Etruscan and Roman religion.

According to Wikipedia, the origins of Orcus may have lain in Etruscan religion, that were heavily influenced by the mythology of ancient Greece, and sharing similarities with concurrent Roman mythology and religion.

Orcus had many associations with other underworld gods such as Pluto, Hades, Horkos, Dis-pater, etc.

As with Hades, the name of the god was also used for the underworld itself. In the later tradition, he was conflated with Dis Pater. The name “Orcus” seems to have been given to the malicious and punishing side of the ruler of the underworld, as the god who tormented evildoers in their afterlife. Like the name Hades, “Orcus” could refer both to the underworld itself, as well as its ruling deity. In the charitable interpretation for such a place, it was believed to be an abode for purification of the souls of the deceased. A rite of passage of sort, from one phase into anther.

The Truth, the Uncomfortable Truth and an Ethical Dilemma

From Orcus' association with death and the underworld, his name came to be used for demons and other underworld monsters. However, a more modern interpretation can be found in the stories of multiple other underworld gods and goddesses on this website. They describe individuals who went deep inside themselves - into their own unknown - to root out the distortions of truth that they had held onto. They bravely face uncomfortable individual truths, as well as collective truths that are unacknowledged. Also, the illusions or delusion they may have held about themselves and others, metaphorically dying to the old script.

Also allowing the seeing of the blindspots that had kept them ‘blind’, and in effect, by illuminating the blindspot, eliminating it. Also healing the negative self-image in this process. Orcus is also about allowing yourself to see how you blame others, when it is in truth; forms of psychological

projection and your denial of truth. Psychological projection is the subconscious that projects onto other people, what you are guilty of. It’s that Freudian slip that reveals to others, what you will not acknowledge to yourself. It’s an Orcus punishment, allowing others to see the deep lies that you will not; it’s embarrassing. Orcus has good intentions, because being fully honest is important for divine order. Orcus truths are those soul lessons you learn the hard way, and you cannot unlearn. It is being accountable for your self.

The underworld isn’t so bad when you are not in denial anymore… In fact, there is peace when monsters no longer haunt you into see the truth that you are hiding from, inside yourself… The scary internal landscape that many people fear to go into, stirs fear only until the unknown is explored, then no more… Orcus is the very deep spiritual truths that entail deep soul growth. It is the battle within oneself to stick to one’s word; spiritual honesty and conviction.

What is the Underworld and the Subconscious?

Orcus/Horkos was a daemon, which is not a god, but in modern terms more representative as a part of our psyche. Orcus was considered one of the gods of the underworld, but not the ruler, who was Pluto/Hades. The subconscious mind is the dark, unknown place, that we sometimes act from, but we don’t understand why. A bad conscience is often at play as well. This was the ancient way of describing poor qualities, like rage, ruthlessness, anger etc. It’s like we are driven by something unconscious, and hidden. In ancient times many heroes went into the underworld to discover what was there, which was a tough journey, but noble. This journey has many faces, it can be the hero’s journey, or be as simple as being true to one’s path and purpose in life; being authentic and truthful with self, in all that you do.

Horkos / Orcus in Ancient Mythology?

THE TWO ASTROLOGICAL GLYPHS FOR ERIS, GODDESS OF DISCORD AND STRIFE

According to Wikipedia, a temple to Orcus may once have existed on the Palatine Hill in Rome. It is likely that he was transliterated from the Greek daemon Horkos, the personification of oaths and a son of Eris. The Wiki website also states that Horcus’s abode was likely the underworld, and that Orcus is the Roman equivalent to the Greek mythological Horkos.

Horkos and Orcus are very similar sounding names, and multiple other astrologers have noted in online articles and YouTube videos that the astrological significance of Orcus is the same as Horkos.

Image: Eris via Wikimedia commons. Click to enlarge.

This association of Horkos with Orcus is credible for me as well, for as Eris and Pluto made an exact square, and a Hammer of Thor aspect pattern formed to Orcus, I felt the effects of this for myself, powerfully. Thus, this shall be explored as such.

This website already contains a large section on Eris, Goddess of Discord and Strife, and other articles have mentioned her children, which are an unruly bunch. As the reader can see, Eris’s children had names that described them, and personified, they acted with regards to those meanings.

According to Greek poet Hesiod, Eris is the mother of a variety of allegorical spirits or beings, which are the causes or representatives of man's misfortunes.

Her children were Ponos (Hardship), Lethe (Forgetfulness), Limos (Starvation), Dysnomia (Anarchy, Lawlessness), Ate (Ruin, Blindness, Folly, Delusion, Clouding of the mind), Horkos (Oath), the Algae (Pains), the Hysminai (Battles), the Makhai (Wars), the Phonoi (Murders), the Androktasiai (Manslaughters), the Neikea (Quarrels, Grievances), the Pseudologoi (Lies, Falsehoods), the Amphilogiai (Disputes), Logos (Words), Momos (Blame, Criticism).

Horkos is the most powerful of all the daemons, and was believed to attach himself to the heels of the guilty conscience. Horkos keeps pace with wrong judgements. The ancient Greeks knew that you cannot escape this wrongdoing, it follows you around, and it stresses the importance of truth, and not lying to others and self.

When we lie, we trap energy inside of ourselves that damages and disadvantages us. Real honesty with self and others, is so you can have peace. We cannot rationalise doing these wicked things, because the subconscious and that Jiminy cricket, comes back knocking, and won’t let you have peace, until you acknowledge want you want to hide from. Allowing the fears, insecurities, doubts and pain allows the issues to rise to consciousness, to come to the light of day, so that you can acknowledge them and be at peace.

Pluto is the issues that we hide from, that become the monster in the closet. Orcus represents the processes that ‘punishes’ us for repressing and denying the need of the subconscious to bring the truth to light, for your ultimate peace and personal growth.

Orcus represents allowing the lessons from the subconscious to do its work, and ultimately enrich your life. Allowing the going into the darkness, to find the truth and the light that have not been revealed to you yet.

Horkos and Ancient Greek Concepts of Justice

Taking an oath in the ancient Greek culture was a very serious commitment. Horkos was the avenger of perjury and those who broke their oaths.

According to this website, making an oath is equal to creating an iron-clad contract between each person and Horkos. If a person took an oath and then broke it, there were serious consequences. Horkos wasn’t the daemon of oaths, but rather of broken oaths. Since taking an oath was seen as divine action, breaking the oath was worse than lying. It meant severe punishment, meted out by Horkos.

Hesiod, Works and Days 218 ff :

"The better path is to go by on the other side towards justice; for Dike (Justice) beats Hybris (Outrage) when she comes at length to the end of the race. But only when he has suffered does the fool learn this. For Horkos (Horcus, Oath) keeps pace with wrong judgements."

In Greek mythology, the figure of Horkos ("oath") personifies the curse that will be inflicted on any person who swears a false oath or makes wrong judgements. He was the avenger of perjury and the punitive companion of the goddess Dike (Justice). Breaking an oath was a violation against divine order.

According to Wikipedia, in Aesop's Fables there is a cautionary story, (numbered 239 in the Perry Index), indicating that retribution is swift where the god is defied. Oath-taking and the penalties for perjuring oneself played an important part in the Ancient Greek concept of justice.

In his Works and Days, Hesiod states that the Erinyes (Furies) assisted at the birth of Horkos, "whom Eris bore, to be a plague on those who take false oath", and that the fifth day of each month was especially dangerous as being the day on which he was born. However, according to the moral given in an ethical parable related by Aesop, there is no fixed day on which the god's punishment falls on the wicked.

Aesop's fable concerns a man who had taken a deposit from a friend and, when asked to swear an oath regarding it, left the town hurriedly, read the story below:

Aesop, Fables 170 (from Chambry 298) (trans. Gibbs) (Greek fable C6th B.C.) :

"A certain man took a deposit from a friend but intended to keep it for himself. When the depositor then summoned him to swear an oath regarding the deposit, he realized the danger he was in and prepared to leave the city and go to his farm. When he reached the city gates, he saw a lame man who was also on his way out of town. He asked the man who he was and where he was going. The man said that he was the god named Horkos (Horcus, Oath) and that he was on his way to track down wicked people. The man then asked Horkos (Oath) how often he revisited each city. Horkos replied, ‘I come back after forty years, or sometimes thirty.’

Accordingly, on the very next day the man did not hesitate to swear an oath that he had never received the deposit. But then the man ran into Horkos, who dragged him off to the edge of a cliff. The man asked Horkos how he could have said that he wasn't coming back for another thirty years when in fact he didn't even grant him a single day's reprieve. Horkos explained, ‘You also need to know that if somebody intends to provoke me, I am accustomed to come back again the very same day.’"

Image: From Aesop’s Fables via Wikimedia Commons.

The man had told a lie thinking that he would get away with it, but was stunned when Horkos came back the next day for the punishment for his wickedness. He really did think he would get away with it…

Aesop’s fables shows, that you can lie and get away with it for a while, or you can lie and be punished the very next day.

Ultimately, there will be a punishment of sorts. Lying always come back to get you… often in the form of people who come into your life, and call you out on your untruths.

A similar story was told by Herodotus and may even have been the fable's origin. It concerned a man who asked the Delphic oracle's advice about dishonouring such an oath and received the answer that he would profit for the moment but that it would bring about the destruction of him and his heirs.

Herodotus, Histories 6. 86c (trans. Godley) (Greek historian C5th B.C.) :

"Glaukos (Glaucus) [historical figure] journeyed to Delphoi (Delphi) to question the oracle. When he asked the oracle whether he should seize the money under oath [that is, money entrusted to him which he had sworn to return], the Pythian priestess threatened him in these verses : ‘Glaukos son of Epikydes, it is more profitable now to prevail by your oath and seize the money. Swear, for death awaits even the man who swears true. But Horkos (Horcus, Oath) has a son, nameless; he is without hands or feet, but he pursues swiftly, until he catches and destroys all the family and the entire house. The line of a man who swears true is better later on.’

When Glaukos heard this, he entreated the god to pardon him for what he had said. The priestess answered that to tempt the god and to do the deed had the same effect."

This emphasises how important it is not to go back on one’s word, not tell lies, nor make false statements or promises. And to not even attempt it… It shows how damaging it is to one’s soul and once’s psyche, to indulge in these falsehoods. It is the evil of being veiled from the truth, due to your own distortion. Being in darkness, due to not having experienced the light of truth yet.

The severity of such justice underlines the importance of oath-taking in Ancient Greece, which was undertaken in the name of the gods. To perjure oneself meant waging war on the gods.

In taking an oath one called down a conditional curse on oneself, to take effect if one lied or broke one's promise. The lasting nature of this curse, and the corresponding benefit of honouring one's word, is also emphasised by Hesiod in discussing the matter:

"Whoever wilfully swears a false oath, telling a lie in his testimony, he himself is incurably hurt at the same time as he harms Justice, and in after times his family is left more obscure, whereas the family of the man who keeps his oath is better in after times." In later times, the role of bringing justice for broken oaths was undertaken by the Furies, specified by Hesiod as the midwives at the birth of Horkos. Justice was also under the protection of the King of the gods, who in this aspect is referred to as Zeus Horkios (guardian of oaths); in circumstances where other divine entities were named, they too took responsibility for retribution.

In today’s terms, many people don’t give credit to the consequences of indulging in relationship f*****y, like devaluing and breaking commitments to enter into third party entanglements, yet there are energetic consequences, like landing in spiritual jail. Karma.

As it relates to this website, the trans-Neptunian objects are about pulling the shadow side into the light, for the potential of a powerful transformation. It’s about the spiritual underpinnings of the actions we take against other people, that defile divine order.

Eris Square Pluto Smite Orcus?

What would Eris in Aries square Pluto in Capricorn look like in terms of making a Hammer of Thor aspect, that smited Orcus in Virgo into oblivion?

We know that this aspect smote everyone into coronavirus lockdown and isolation, but on a deeper meaning and closer look, what are the dynamics behind this?

Pluto is in Capricorn, and had conjunctions with Saturn and Jupiter, which stirred the Capricorn establishments, like government, religion, organisations, the courts of law etc. into re-evaluating the rot (Pluto) in the system (Capricorn) and what changes need to be made. Eris in Aries is the whistle-blower and the person who is expert at seeing the spokes in the wheel that drive the corrupt systems, and the narcissistic individuals who serve themselves at the expense of others, marginalising, disadvantaging and using them. Often for a selfish and self-centered gain. The tension between Pluto and Eris is, that the system needs to change, and Pluto is known for driving this in a powerful potent way, but the system wants to silence the whiste-blower, who they know can see what they are doing. Eris in Aries is the advocate for the individual who are being harmed by the system and establishment who want to lord it over others with their authority. Eris is also representative of individuals like hackers, social engineers, and individuals who want to expose the truth, and who also want to get one over on others. Innately, both Pluto and Eris are energies that look deeply and want for the truth to come out. This is the tension that, when the square aspect is exact, and there is a planet at the release valve, hurtles that energy with power to smite. The smiting in this case is done on Orcus in Virgo.

Orcus in Virgo

In Virgo, Orcus is a stickler for the importance of detail, and advocates for the fine print, the scientific evidence, and all the information that backs up the credibility of work that had perhaps been meticulously done, perhaps over many years.

Both the zodiac sign of Virgo, and the energy of Orcus, is about going, and having gone the distance, worked hard, and endured to achieve something of value.

Orcus Negative Traits

Orcus or Horkos is about the guardian of an oath, the breaking of a promise or a pledge, wrongful judgements made, words used wrongfully against another, word-play, gaslighting, psychological twisting of truth, falsifying or bringing dishonour to something that was made in solemn pact or loyalty.

Negative Orcus is being hypocritical, judgemental and fault finding in the ways of others. It entails assigning blame, and not taking responsibility for ones words and actions. It’s about being unable to honour commitment.

Since coronavirus started, many people have spent time in isolation reconsidering prior investments and loyalties to day jobs, partnerships or friends that many have since decided to leave, perhaps because those things had no sincere commitment in them either…

Define Oath:
1. promise
2. pledge
3. affirmation
4. word of honour
5. witness to the truth
6. allegiance, pact, loyalty
— Various Online Sources

Some things that had seemed steadfast in the past, perhaps involving daily routine or working a day job, had received the crushing death blow of the Hammer of Thor.

Allegiances and loyalties were lost, and perhaps wrong judgements were made, and now it is the end of the old.

For some time to be spent in the underworld, for a new pact with Self to be made, and for new life to rebirth… eventually.

Betrayal Trauma Bonds?

Betrayal bonds is a great modern day example of Orcus energy. It’s the glue that can keep a person attached to narcissistic abuse. They are a form of brainwashing that thrives on the trauma of breaking spoken or unspoken ‘contracts’ within intimate relationships where trust is required. Unfortunately, many people in abusive relationships with narcissists tend to form a sort of tolerance against repeated betrayals, and may often find themselves financially or physically dependent on someone, who is destructive to their wellbeing. Orcus higher expression energy represents that process of going within, to find the truth of the pattern, so that what is seen and known as truth, can be an antidote against evil.

In his book "The Betrayal Bond", Patrick Carnes presents an in-depth study of these relationships, why they form, who is most susceptible, and how they become so powerful.

According to Wikipedia, this concept was originally introduced by Jennifer Freyd in 1994. Betrayal trauma theory (BTT), addresses situations where the victim is close to, or reliant upon others for support, protection, resources or survival, and a violation of these things breaks the trust, security, or well-being of that person.

Symbolism of the Orca / Killer Whale:

The astronomers who discovered dwarf planet Orcus, as well as the designer of the Orcus glyph, made the strong associations with namesake, the orca. This is worth exploring.

The Orca or Killer Whale symbolises family, commitment, longevity, harmony, travel, community and protection. When this is compared to the Horkos connection, there seems to be many similarities, as Horkos is the daemon who stands firm that oaths should not be broken, and being constantly on the lookout for this injustice, when he finds it, there is no middle road for the condemned who shall be punished.

Many humans have remarked that an orca has a grin, which was incorporated into the astrological glyph for Orcus by creator Denis Moskowitz.

Orcas will often stay their whole life with the same pod and raise each calf with care. They are a matriarchal society, and they mate for life. They are very protective and loyal, and keep their ‘oaths’, connection and bonds to each other. Orcas are said to sing to each other, and

communicate through this vibrational awareness in the ocean.

The orca is black and white, which carries a strong Yin Yang energy, much like dwarf planet Orcus and Pluto’s orbit dance in a divinely interconnected vesica pisces pattern. The black or white also hints at a strong stance regarding right or wrong, and terms being ‘black or white’; this certainly fits in with the Greek mythological stories regarding Horkos, who would dish out retribution when oaths had been broken, seeing no grey areas.

When hunting for food, they are very diligent, powerful, resilient, and observed by humans as aggressive, but they are strong leaders in their group, standing firm for social justice by prioritising devotion to family. When travelling together the highly intelligent mammals are seen protecting each other in teamwork, particularly the young.

According to Wikipedia, the minor planet Orcus was named after one of the Roman gods of the underworld, Orcus. While Pluto (of Greek origin) was the ruler of the underworld, Orcus (of Etruscan origin) was a punisher of the condemned. The name was published by the Minor Planet Center on 26 November 2004.

Image: Comparison of size of orca (Orcinus orca) and human. I have altered the size of the diver. I assumed a height of 1.80 metres for the diver (from head to heel not to end of flipper) (this is a slightly taller than average male), and a length of 6.5 meters for the orca (females average 6 metres while males average 7 metres). This gives a diver to orca ratio of 3.6. The original image had a ratio of 5.5 which is unrealistic.

Under the guidelines of the International Astronomical Union's (IAU) naming conventions, objects with a similar size and orbit to that of Pluto are named after underworld deities.

Accordingly, the discoverers suggested naming the object after Orcus. The name was also a private reference to the homonymous Orcas Island, where astronomer Mike Brown's wife had lived as a child and that they visit frequently. On 30 March 2005, Orcus's moon, Vanth, was named after a winged female demon of the Etruscan underworld. She could be present at the moment of death, and frequently acted as a psychopomp, a guide of the deceased to the underworld.

A Hammer of Thor Aspect Pattern in Astrology

Two Hammer of Thor aspect patterns are at play all through the seven year Yod with Haumea at the Apex.

The information in the course may be vital for some, for when two slow-moving outer planets square each other for an extended period of time - like seven years - take notice…

Thor's Hammer is a highly volatile, dynamic aspect pattern in the astrological sky, because any “nozzle” planet at the apex, or inverse midpoint, will be the key to expression of the energy. Any personal planet in the birth chart that happen to be at the hotspot apex of the transiting planets in square, may express the energies of the square through the agitation indicated by the double sesquiquadrates.

The tension-filled energy that smoulders between the two square planets, finds a powerful outlet if there is a third planet at this particular apex point. This means the apex planet must find a creative way to resolve the conflict of the square, or else it could vent that tension destructively. A Yod and a Hammer of Thor aspect pattern may look similar at first glance, but they are different in energy dynamics. The natal chart or horoscope is a circle divided in 360 degrees, and based on this, it makes geometric shapes or aspects patterns that bring about a certain kind of energy. In the image below, you will see that instead of the 90 degree square of the Hammer of Thor, a Yod is a 60 degree sextile aspect. The Yod is often called the ‘finger of God’, but the Hammer of Thor - sometimes called ‘God’s fist’ - is a stronger energy more likely to achieve sudden violent changes or shifts.

Image: Amulette in the form of a Thor's hammer (Mjollnir). This Thor's hammer was found in 1874, in Mandemark, Møn, Denmark. via Wikimedia Commons.

The Haumea Yod course, and the Foundations of Change course are all about the bigger picture, involving these slow-moving outer planets that move around in the same degrees, aspecting each other to create the Yod, as well as Hammer of Thor aspect patterns.

These Kuiper belt objects (Eris, Haumea, MakeMake, Quaoar, Orcus) are now classified as being in the same league as Pluto, and as we know, Pluto may be small and far away, but potent in influence…

The Kuiper Belt objects / trans-Neptunian dwarf planets bring hope, change, expanded thinking, soul purpose, and quantum leaps into our consciousness.

The Haumea Yod Course provides information on how to identify if the two Hammer of Thor aspect patterns influence the student in the birth chart, and how to deal with the energies, for having these transiting Hammers at play for seven years, is something to take heed if you are directly in the firing line…

Remember there is a difference between having a Hammer of Thor in your birth chart, versus having the apex of these transiting Hammer of Thor aspect patterns land on one of the personal planets in your birth chart.

The Brief Story behind the Hammer of Thor in Mythology

Image: Chris Hemsworth is the Australian actor who brought the Norse mythology of Thor to life via Wikimedia Commons.

The mythological Hammer of Thor is famous thanks to the Thor Marvel films with Australian actor Chris Hemsworth, in which he makes others feel the weight of it, for only the worthy can wield the light and the strength that comes through it. The astrological aspect is named after the mythological "thunder hammer" that was one of the most intense, fearsome and powerful weapons in existence, as it carried Thor’s intentions. It is said that Thor might smite as hard as he desired. This is applicable to those who have a Hammer of Thor aspect in their natal chart, for this leaves them with the choice in how to “handle” the hammer.

The Mjölnir is the hammer of the thunder god Thor in Norse mythology, said to be used both as a devastating weapon, and as a divine instrument to provide blessings. Thor was gifted the hammer, after a disruptive misunderstanding by the trickster Loki, that was forged by dwarves in the underworld. The hammer has great power to protect, and its strength, when wielded by the best intentions, is used to help tap into manifesting ability. It is known as the crusher or grinder. The hammer is a tool to grind human circumstances down to their essence, and use the lessons of human life, for spiritual development and growth. According to the stories, the hammer never failed to achieve its purpose. When thrown, the hammer always returned to Thor’s hand, like a boomerang effect, every time. Due of its potential destructive force, Thor was forced to wear an iron glove. Every time Thor throws the hammer, lightning flashes, it hits its target and returns to his protected hand.

In ancient times, the hammer was commonly worn as a pendant during the Viking Age in the Scandinavian cultural sphere.

The Hammer of Thor in the Birth Chart

In exploring the meaning of this when the aspect pattern is in the birth chart, it seems that since the hammer was originally made for a superior god, which is Odin (Thor’s father), this may indicate that is meant for someone of maturity, intention, consciousness, wisdom, foresight and experience, and should be wielded with care. It’s possessor should never forget that the ability to wield it, potentially against another, can have unwanted outcomes…

The mythological story around the hammer involves multiple acts of deception, involving using words like butter to butter

others up. Also, antagonist Loki’s schemes for deceptive fun, and game playing, but this is not the gist of it. Emotions run high, as there may be a need to defend the truth, and one’s honour from those who wish to fool, distort, or rip to shreds with force. A hammer coming down may expose secrets, scandals, and clandestine behaviour in a flash, as truths are hung out for all to see. The hammer can smite what is out of alignment and integrity. In the long term, the hammer’s boomerang effect expose enemies and liars.

In myth, Thor the Norse god of thunder has a ferocious appearance of flaming red hair, but he is popular as the protector of both gods and humans against the forces of evil. He reminds somewhat of Greek god Zeus and his lightening rod, but is not quite the same story… Thursday gets its English name after the hammer-wielding Norse god of thunder, strength and protection. Thor's day had become Thursday.

Image: Tor's Fight with the Giants. According to Norse mythology, thunder and lightning occur when the Æsir god Thor is angered, and so he rides out on his chariot, pulled by the goats Tanngnjóstr and Tanngrisnir, on the hunt for wickedness in the form of the Ettins. In his fight against this race of giants, he swings his hammer Mjöllnir and pulls on his belt of power, Megingjörð, which boosts his power. Psychologically, Thor is quite simple, in comparison with the brooding Odin. He was worshipped mainly by farmers and slaves. In Mårten Eskil Winge’s interpretation, Thor is strong, blond, resolute and fearless. The painting was extremely well received when it was shown for the first time at Nationalmuseum in 1872, a time when Norse mythology and the gods were enjoying great popularity. Winge was one of many Scandinavian artists who painted the Æsir gods in the 1870s. And their paintings and sculptures still influence our ideas about Vikings and the Æsir gods to this day. Winge’s original audience interpreted the painting as a general depiction of good battling evil. In modern times, Thor’s battle with the giants has been perceived as an expression of Nationalist or Fascist ideals. The blond-haired Thor has been seen as a defender of the Nordic ideal that is threatened by the dark-haired giants. The swastika on Thor’s belt of power has no doubt helped to make the painting popular among various right-wing extremist groups. For Winge and his contemporaries, the swastika was an ancient decorative symbol for the sun, appearing in architectural decoration and in various logos. Nationalmuseum Sweden via Wikimedia Commons.

According to AstroWiki, children with this aspect tend to be very hard to discipline or control, and carry this personality trait into their adult lives as challengers of the status-quo. This can give rise to Thor’s Hammer individuals being subject to criticism, most likely because they’re independent nature causes them not to do as they’re told. This aspect pattern may show that the Hammer of Thor bearer has an adventurous nature, that forces them on new paths to be roamed rather than the controlled, laid out paths and choices that others would have them make. They may have a preference for moving from destination to destination, as their personal quest dictates.

Smite
The use of god-like force in a way that cleaves, crushes, or shatters said object or person.

When a Hammer of Thor is in the birth chart, it is said to be a highly unique avenue and potential for growth. It’s the ability to wield your intentions with wisdom in a potent manner… when done in the right way with integrity…

The challenge of a Hammer of Thor aspect is that the energy of the hammer is very intense, fast, and difficult lessons come with it; teaching us how to use the energy’s innate strength awakened for good. The hammer shows where a decision has to be made about how you conduct or “handle” yourself in the heat of the moment, and not indulge in low vibrational emotion. We can tap into our inner authority for genuine insight, take action by throwing the hammer toward our best intentions, and reap the benefits when it comes back to us. With the intentions you put out, you reap a harvest, and if you had sown bad seeds, be willing to learn you lesson well the first time. Take the difficulties head on, and be careful of going over the edge with your drive.

The Hammer of Thor on its own is a potentially destructive force.

Wielded with the best intentions, like intending for it to expose deception of others via the apex planet may yield results. But wielding it when your intentions carry some darkness in the heart to disadvantage another… well… more things might get smote than just the intended… as the user is clearly out of control… out of integrity, and out of his mind to even dare to be so reckless… Thor’s hammer is a powerful energy to contend with… coming back to bite the abuser in boomerang effect… perhaps quite eloquently… as Sedna’s stories surrounding cause and effect, and divine recompense shows.

Some astrologers say that Thor’s hammer may be wielded as either a gentle touch, or a lethal blow of energy. Be careful with it, for it has consequences… for you! The hammer sparks lightning and its power can easily rebound on the user, as it hits its mark with deadly accuracy, which is why those who use it are advised to protect themselves from its force.

The tension of the square and critical irritation and friction of the two sesquiquadrate aspects may come raining down on your parade with its instability, when secret intentions on disadvantaging another is hiding in your heart.

Being at the receiving end of having ‘wielded the hammer’ against another, and now experiencing the boomerang effect, may entail being energetically held at a disadvantage, for having abused its power.
