According to Wikipedia, Wicked is an upcoming epic musical fantasy film directed by Jon M. Chu and adapted to the screen by Winnie Holzman and Stephen Schwartz.

It is the first of a two-part film adaptation of their smash hit 2003 stage musical of the same name, which is in turn based on the 1995 novel of the same name by Gregory Maguire and characters from L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

The film stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, with Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Jeff Goldblum and Michelle Yeoh in supporting roles. Set in the Land of Oz, the film revolves around Elphaba, the green-skinned protagonist, and explores the path that leads her to become the Wicked Witch of the West. Wicked was delayed by COVID-19 but is reportedly scheduled for release on November 27, 2024, while a sequel will be released the following year.

Wicked the musical (and the two Wicked movies in the making) are great examples of the Eris juxtaposition in astrology. Eris will be particularly part of our collective experience from 2020 - 2028+ and many Eris story movies have been released recently. Eris squared Pluto with five direct hits between 2020 and 2021, and has seen the release of Disenchanted (2022), Cinderella (2021), The School for Good and Evil (2022) and Cruella (2021).

Also consider Pinocchio (2020) whose nose extends upon telling lies, celebrity Barbie (2022) whose existence is rooted in ostentation, material riches and the superficial, and Disney’s Snow White (2024) that will be released as the Eris conjunct Chiron aspect starts in 2024. Movie-goers will find a way to fork out the money one way or another… because of the popularity of the musical, and the new Wicked movie is set to be split into two parts.

Eris in Astrology and Wicked Being Ostracised

According to author Maguire, Wicked is primarily about identifying with someone who is OSTRACISED. The Gazette called Wicked "a cautionary tale...about what happens when we as a society decide to label anyone who differs from the norm as evil." It’s also about the consequences of being on a high horse and trying to control other people’s lives and destinies by making them FEEL DEPRIVED, ISOLATED or INSIGNIFICANT; it backfires, sometimes in unwanted ways. What you sow you reap.

Eris in astrology in about an antagonist versus the protagonist. It’s about how the boundaries blur when there is a social snub, being shunned, outcasted, scapegoated, defamed, or having the script flipped on. Why? For the vain, insecure, impersonating villain to take a gain from demolishing the wholesome protagonist’s spirit, or at least snuffing out their light in some way, by subtracting from their innate value in the public eye, or attempting to make them believe falsehoods about self.

It’s about manipulating who is loved, admired and supported for their genuinely beautiful qualities. It’s about switching realities to confuse others to be in power over them. It’s about failing to count the emotional distress.

Eris is TRUTH eventually becoming illuminated (as it always does with Eris!).

Eris is the stuff that gets movie theatres packed with enthusiasm, and reaps movie moguls massive revenue. Eris is what paves the red carpet scarlet red, gets the GLITTERATI in their finest, and the Hall of Fame in Hollywood paved with odes to the stars.

Eris in astrology is also about bestowing lack of love or a great misfortune - even spite, malice or hatred - that was meant to destroy the protagonist. It’s about the survivor living to tell their story, alchemising the trauma, and it ending up being a blessing in disguise after they had gained STRENGTH, great COMPASSION for being MARGINALISED, and resilience in the face of massive ADVERSITY. Having found self-love, self-worth and quantum potentials within, through a massive trial that might have demolished the meek of spirit. Hello Eris!

Wicked: Many Different Versions and Points of View of the Tale Reiteration

What do we know about Wicked? There are many different versions of the story, with different outcomes.

This information is important because in later adaptations Elphaba’s benevolent qualities comes to the forefront, where in the earlier novels she was an evil witch who had flying monkeys doing her dirty work. Later adaptations of the original story are far more likely to explore Elphaba’s true character, and allow Glinda to be seen for the people-pleasing social climber that she is. Glinda isn’t just good, and Elphaba isn’t just bad… it’s A SERIES OF LIFE CHOICES and influences that guided these women into who they ultimately became in the end of the story. There are things that parents chose for children to ingest, but as children form and function as an individual, they choose to ingest according to their own preferences. WHAT YOU FOCUS ON GROWS. This is Eris in astrology, for nobody is born corrupted… and many people manage to stay pure for some years despite living in this world, that wants to pull the TALL POPPY down, or dull its bright shine. Wicked has so many different facets of Eris energy, like the cowardly lion who needed COURAGE, the tin man without a HEART, and scarecrow who was not the brightest and needed some BRILLIANCE.

How Elphaba became the Wicked Witch of the West

The 2003 Wicked musical is an Eris in astrology story. It’s about the unique friendship between two very different young women Galinda (later known as Glinda the Good) and Elphaba (later known as the Wicked Witch of the West).

They became the best of friends, sharing secrets and confidences as young girls often do. Wikipedia describes that Galina was popular at Shiz university, well liked and loved, but Ephaba did not fit into popular society, described as ‘nerdy’, getting involved in POLITICS, and rejected as a child because of her green skin; a very obvious source of INSECURITY that cannot be hidden from others. Yet early on Elphaba’s potential was recognised by Morrible, Headmistress of Shiz, who decided to teach her sorcery, telling Elphaba that her ‘powers’ might allow her to one day work with the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, which is something that Elphaba had dreamed of her whole life. During her time at Shiz, Elphaba becomes an animal activist after Doctor Dilliable begins to suffer discrimination. He tells Elphaba about a conspiracy to stop animals from speaking, and she wants to let the Wizard know because he could stop it. The next day, Dr Dillamond explains that he was no longer permitted to teach, and the students are introduced to the technical advantages of the cage, which will prevent any animal from speaking. Elphaba desired to let the Wizard know about this injustice that was taking place… and became an ANIMAL ACTIVIST.

After a series of evens with fellow students, Elphaba and Glinda get the opportunity to meet the Wizard of Oz in Emerald City, who promises to grant her request if she proves herself. Madame Morrible appears as the Wizard's new "PRESS SECRETARY." She gives Elphaba a book of spells, the Grimmerie, which only the magically gifted can read. Elphaba is ASKED to perform a levitation spell on the Wizard's monkey servant, Chistery, but it makes Chistery very painfully sprout wings. With this encounter with the Wizard of Oz, Elphaba discovers that the Wizard is behind the suppression of the Animals and that he is a fraud who only creates a bunch of lies so he can continue on in power.

Elphaba flees the Wizard's chamber, and DRAMA-STARTER Morrible warns all of Oz that Elphaba is a "wicked witch"

This casting of an illusion after TRICKERY, making false accusations and criticisms in Morrible’s ‘press release‘ and smear campaign, is how a socially awkward girl, got turned into having the reputation of the Wicked Witch of the West. This was after being ASKED to perform a task to ‘prove’ herself ‘worthy’ for someone else’s biased ‘approval’. Then the protagonist had her essence stolen from her as well, and made to look bad, and feel empty on the inside.

Elphaba not only got OSTRACISED for being different, but for seeing DYSFUNCTION and calling out TRUTH around INJUSTICE and ABUSE OF POWER.

The Hidden Truth got Seen about ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’ as a False Person

Antagonist The Wonderful Wizard of Oz acts all pious and innocent, yet he is secretive and sneaky. He CHARMS people yet there is no substance or sincerity behind it. He is INTOXICATED with destructive power, ULTERIOR MOTIVES and DARK INTENTIONS for others under his innocent guise; to demolish other’s VISION, DREAMS or POTENTIALS. His sidekick Morrible was in on the FAKE FLEXING and POWER BROKERING to be seen in a positive light and be in position of POWER and SOCIAL INFLUENCE, but to keep a tight lid on the corruption underneath it. They come across as congenial in their positions of AUTHORITY in EDUCATIONAL SYSTEMS, but they use power for SELF-AGGRANDISEMENT. They were blocking other’s unique beauty and pathways by putting them ‘in a cage’, or ‘making them mute’, instead of enabling equality and for students to each rise up as the unique star - with massive potential - that they are. They are JEALOUS of other’s POTENTIALS and expect for others to submit to their ABUSE OF POWER and CONTROLLING BEHAVIOUR over them. They want to put on the FRONT and PRETEND they are something they are not; that they are SOMEBODY.

They dibble dabble in low-vibrational energy to MANIPULATE people and draw them into their AGENDA.

They don’t really make an effort for the good of all, they just use their POSITION to secretly intercept, slow down, or destroy what other people have going on in terms of their PASSION, FRUITS OF THEIR LABOUR, GIFTS, BLESSINGS or FORTUNE. They want to be in power but not do the real work to be there. They FEED off of others… and may resort to VIOLENCE for their POLITICAL CAUSE. They project an IMAGE that serves their agenda and shapeshift to rope multiple people into COLLABORATION into their system of GOVERNANCE. The hustlers are secretly in competition, for everyone that moves into their sphere, that INTIMIDATES or make them feel THREATENED, must be DISCREDITED. This is why the antagonist block those of high honour and worthy of public standing who believe in meritocracy.

A narcissist attach themselves to successful people, to prop themselves up through them, then dethrone them at a pivotal moment for an ego gain, via anther’s pain. This is why empires fall, because the ego gain is the goal, not the happiness of thousands of people who are part of an empire/system and depend on its success.

How Miss Popularity Glinda Got Elevated in Social Chemistry, Status and Public Standing

After some time had passed, The Wizard had given Galinda the title “Glinda the Good” and a PUBLIC STATUS as the nation’s defender against Elphaba who had her social chemistry stripped.

Glinda fit into the OFFICIAL PERSON box that was created for her. She wanted APPROVAL, VALIDATION and POSITIVE ATTENTION, and it suited her at the time to be publicly RECOGNISED as special, ACCOLADES for POPULARITY, and being seen as the darling of society. The book by Maguire introduced Galinda early on as an avid SOCIAL CLIMBER. This 10th house issue in astrology, regarding wanting to be seen in a certain light (in the 10th house of public standing) is a very prominent Eris in astrology issue, as is seen in Eris’ discovery chart.

Many fabricated stories and prejudices were going around about the green witch that had been OSTRACISED by then, and the citizens of Oz still felt INSECURE about her as a threat to them, thus Glinda is the perfect fit to ALLAY THEIR FEARS of the green witch.

More BLAME is heaped on Elphaba’s already UNFAIRLY STAINED CHARACTER after she tries to help her sister Nessa out of the mess that Nessarose had created by doing LOVE SPELL magic on Boq, who she wanted to fall in love with her. Elphaba mispronounced the words, and in trying to help her teary sister, is further SCAPEGOATED after transforming Boq into a heart-less Tin Man.

Justice for Cockamamie, Stirring Political Unrest and Tension due to Underhanded Activities that Discriminate

Determined to right the wrongs, Elphaba returns to Emerald City to free the monkey servants, and encounters the wizard, who admits that he is an ordinary man. The wizard offers to redeem Ephaba’s reputation after having caused her fall from grace through his PR machine Morrible, but after she discovers Dr. Dillamond who has lost the power of speech, she angrily CONFRONTS the wizard with the TRUTH, and makes ACCUSATIONS against him.

Later another incident where Elphaba tries to use a spell to save her lover Fiyero, she is crestfallen by the limitations of (her) power. Here she finally accepts her reputation as a wicked witch. This is after the standard set by first Morrison, and then the Wizard, that she might ‘make a fine witch to work with the Wizard’ with their education. She fails to see how their sorcery teachings and projection on her - that only the ‘MAGICALLY GIFTED’ can read the Grimmerie spell book - became her reality after she chose to believe in it. It had affected her self-worth, self-value and self-esteem negatively.

The rest of the details of the shortened storyline can be followed on Wikipedia.

Fortunately the story ends with Glina banishing the Wizard from Oz and throwing Morrible into prison for murdering Nessarose and accusing Elphaba as a wicked witch.

The following will help to explain why this story about the protagonist being targeted, projected on with illusions, scapegoated and OSTRACISED, and how justice finally took place, finds such DEEP RESONANCE with audiences. Eris is a relationship dynamic that involves the injustice of energy stealing, and flipping the script on the innocent, and it occurs very frequently amongst people. It stirs the DISCORD IN THE HEART that Eris energy is so famous for.

Eris is about the virtuous being the sacrificial lamb so that a narcissist can claim a good reputation and social chemistry… It’s about the desire to destroy another’s good time, by turning love and relationship into a battlefield.

Discord and Strife, Flipping the Script, Scapegoating and Smear-campaigning

After having written extensively on Eris, Goddess of Discord and Strife in astrology, and having studied why Eris was scapegoated for having started the Trojan War that had far-reaching consequences for many, this article is the logical pinnacle based on this extensive study. Eris in astrology has a lower expression, and also a higher expression, which is greatly detailed in the Eris blog.

What do you when you have an insecurity, and you want control and power over others, or want what another has?

Eris was scapegoated for starting the Trojan War, because antagonist Zeus was afraid of her potential, her ability to see the truth despite the lies, and her whistleblowing of his ‘throwing rocks and hiding his hand’ while smiling and pretending to be ‘good’ and wholesome.

Eris in astrology is about ulterior motives and things not appearing as they are, and about jealousy, insecurity, greed and selfishness of massive proportions, not counting the emotional distress.

The storyline in the musical Wicked, as well as The Wizard of Oz novel has so many Eris themes in it. Some people enjoy the trickery that involves a TIMELINE CHANGE, FALSE REALITIES, DISCREDIT and flipping the script on others. Some simply like to toy with people by altering their reality, like making others see an ordinary man as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, despite that being achieved through duplicity and PR. People like the wizard change the fabric of other’s existence to play out whatever scenario they want them to STRUGGLE with, sometimes by ruining their reputation in the eyes of society. However, the energies innate in Eris allows for this to be gotten away with for some time, until the truth can no longer be hidden, and it is the discovery of this truth, perhaps by one person in a group, that makes the trickster feel POWERLESS to do anything about it. Eris in astrology is that power dynamic between accomplishing that POWER OVER OTHERS dynamic, and then also feeling POWERLESS when someone sees beyond the WHOLE MASQUERADE, much like when Dorothy (and her little dog Toto) pulled the curtains revealing the little, insecure man running the show; The Wizard of Oz. This is the reason why the antagonist narcissist tend to be FRUSTRATED by the protagonist empath. The empath’s feeling, innocence and knowing may halt them from doing what the insincere player desire from life (self-fulfilment), which is the running of a PUPPET SHOW. The sincere and compassionate are the narcissist’s kryptonite, spilling the beans on their creation of false realities that they had everyone fooled and deeply invested in.

Wicked - The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz

According to this article, the musical will be split into two separate films, set to arrive in theaters in 2024 and 2025. "As we prepared this production over the last year, it became increasingly clear that it would be impossible to wrestle the story of Wicked into a single film without doing some real damage to it," Director John M.Chu wrote in a statement posted to Twitter. "As we tried to cut songs or trim characters, those decisions began to feel like fatal compromises to the source material that has entertained us all for so many years. So we decided to give ourselves a bigger canvas and make not just one Wicked movie but TWO!!!" He’s already found his Elphaba and Glinda in Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, and Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero.

A recent Tweet from songbird Ariana Grande claims that Wicked is halfway finished with filming and that she was relishing the experience as fair haired Glinda, singing these beautiful songs.

Some Wicked References to Eris Energy:

1. Witches, Bad Apple Players and Appearances :

Witches are generally considered bad energies with DARK INTENTIONS, yet as we see in Wicked the evil mastermind was the insecure little man pulling the strings behind the scenes, who wanted control and worked very hard to have everyone believe his goodie two shoes facade, while making others look evil instead (who are innocent) for knowing the truth and seeing behind the veil of illusion he PROJECTED. He was flipping the script on everyone, and laughing at them behind their backs. The Wizard of Oz has many similarities with Zeus who was the antagonist in Eris’ mythology… Player Zeus wanted to act all innocent and pious, concerned with social matters, and pretend that he was not the public’s foe, by restoring order, when under the surface he was staging a defeat, exploiting and raining on everyone’s parade like a self-conceited tyrant. The player is finally played out as everyone finally sees the truth about ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’. Zeus, the other player, had his wife Hera making the love rat’s life hell, about all the infidelities, lack of loyalty and ‘love’ children.

2. Flying Monkeys and Abuse by Proxy:

In the 1900 novel and 1939 movie The Wizard of Oz, the Wicked Witch of the West had flying or winged monkeys who she sent out to do her dirty work, and the phrase has since become synonymous in psychology and common speech with people who end up doing the dirty work of a narcissist. Flying monkeys get caught up in a narcissistic plan, often to damage the life of another person. The narcissist may use their flying monkeys as piggy in the middle, carrying information from party to party. The flying monkey may use gaslighting tactics, open aggression, or guilt-tripping in order to make another person feel bad or weak. And they’re often involved in pleading the case of the narcissist. Narcissists love having at least one flying monkey, as it makes them feel important and means they can appear to be above the people below them (on both sides) who are caught up in the messy parts of the drama unfolding.

A narcissist is someone who uses others to prop up their own self-importance, and fake altruism is a classic Eris lower expression disguise.

Today, it is understood in common speech that when the narcissist wants to evoke some punishment on a target they dispatch their henchmen (aka flying monkeys) to do their bidding, or fight their battles for them. The Wicked Witch of the West, uses winged flying monkeys to TORMENT her enemies with ABUSE.

3. Third Party Entanglements, Competition and Divide and Conquer:

Third party entanglements in relationship is a fine way to spin a web and get an innocent person all caught up, for some dark satisfaction for the player. This is the drama that makes the plot thicken and can be a slippery slope into bad juju and low vibrational Eris, which is to either disconnect or never find one’s own pot of gold within, due to living by the PROJECTIONS of ‘STANDARDS’ set by society, that ignore people’s unique qualities that they find by going within.

Well-intentioned Elphaba was casted as wicked, but that was just a facade to have the person who THREATENED the status quo ostracised, DISCREDITED, and rejected by everyone.

Glinda was casted as the good because at the time she was willing to PROMOTE THE STATUS QUO and NOT ROCK THE BOAT. People who were once on friendly terms, are put against each other in competition with FEAR-MONGERING, for the benefit of the puppet master’s show, fulfilment and sick satisfaction. Confidence-theft is the goal for Eris lower expression.

4. Good Endings and Justice in Some Form:

Many people love to see the protagonist rise from the destruction and ruin cast on them, and get justice in some form. The Wicked musical generally seem to leave theatre goers with a feeling of elation that good triumphed over evil (especially when the true definition of darkness is considered).

Even though Elphaba is melted by the water thrown on her ILLUSION, there is a strange sense of IRONY as Glinda confronts the Wizard and he recognises that Elphaba had been his biological daughter, thus her green skin. The wizard recognised that the POTION he had drugged her mother Melena with, in order to RAPE the minister’s wife, had resulted in a pregnancy.

With the water thrown on her, Elphaba had in fact secretly staged and faked her death, and uses this opportunity to leave the land of Oz with her lover Fiyero, leaving Glinda with the APPEARANCE of having earned her title as “Glinda the Good” who vanquished the Wicked Witch, who with the new AUTHORITY EARNED, staged a COUP, putting the real evildoers in their place. In the end, things just seemed to work out… just fine… in the CHAOS left behind. The Maguire novel ends with POLITICAL CHAOS reigning over Oz.

Yet it is a strange irony in this version of the story, that if the wizard had been an ordinary man, then so had Elphaba been just a human being like everyone else. All of the SHENANIGANS had been such a worthless pursuit... What comes around goes around. What you sow you reap. When you DELIBERATELY do bad things to other people with EVIL INTENT, expect a return on your investment in that energy dynamic; in the form of your own misfortune eloquently packaged just for you. Live and let live.

5. Catalysts for Change in Relationship:

At the very end of the musical as Glinda and Elphaba see each other for the last time, the two women FORGIVE each other of all their allowances. “Elphaba gives the Grimmerie to Glinda and they embrace one final time before saying goodbye forever, realizing how much they've changed because they knew each other”. This is another very strong issue in Eris energy, to recognise that often people are in each other’s lives to act as CATALYSTS for change, to enable each to GROW past limiting situations, and BREAK GLASS CEILINGS into new POTENTIALS.

6. Free to Sing her Own Song:

After Elphaba had been freed from the burdens of the land of Oz regarding her FALSELY MANUFACTURED public reputation, she was free to go and be her authentic self, and sing the song of her life somewhere else, with the man who loved her. Eris in astrology is famously connected to those who want to control others, curb their RIGHTS and their freedoms, to capitalise off of them in some way. In the higher expression, it is also about those who dare to be different, find their own niche and sing their own song boldly, where they are appreciated.

7. Freedom from Oppression and the Wheel Turning on Ill Intentions for Others:

Wicked is a story that takes place over many years, and it shows how the Wheel of Fortune can turn on those with ILL INTENTIONS for others who hide behind a FRIENDLY FACADE or MASK. The Maguine novel decribes the Wizard is a human who came to Oz from Earth in a hot air balloon. He was originally seeking the Grimmerie, but discovered he could orchestrate a coup d'état and take power for himself. Madame Morrible is a behind-the-scenes POWER BROKER in Ozian politics.

Wicked carries a warning to the vain and fame seekers, in that what went up must come down.

The wheel can represent a natural shift of circumstance or phase in life, such as the change from adolescent to adult, adult to middle age, etc. In the end of the story the evildoers were dealt with after the EXPOSURE, which also entails the massive release from a TOXIC GRASP for others, like the caged animals that likely were released, Dr Dilliable being able to SPEAK again, and all feeling the LIFT of the heavy energy, for FREEDOM and TRIUMPH after the CHAOS.
