Pluto's Ingress into Aquarius 23 March 2023, Atomic Change for Mankind and the Movie Oppenheimer

In hindsight, when Pluto came onto the scene in 1930, it was all about the human collective / individual choice wether for mankind/the individual to destroy itself, or to look within for soul purpose, which is what Pluto as first trans-Neptunian object entail from a metaphysical perspective… Read this article to find out what the new movie Oppenheimer has to do with the atomic bomb, great power, destruction, toxicity and in context to the Bhagavad Gita.

On the release date of the movie in the USA (7/21/23), Pluto squares the Nodes of Fate EXACTLY and Eris goes into retrograde… From April to November 2023 the Nodal axis is in a t-square with Pluto demanding intense change, soul evolution, inner transformation and being emotionally truthful. In July 2023 Pluto squares the Nodes of Fate tightly all month also while the South Node is finishing its sojourn in sign of rulership Scorpio.

The movie world seems to enjoy making movies with themes, that by the estimated time of completion, has significant resonance with astrological energies upon release date. It’s either that, or its pure synchronicity or coincidence… not…

Take for example, all the Eris movies that have been made and released since Eris squared Pluto with five direct hits between 2020 and 2021, like Disenchanted (2022), Cinderella (2021), The School for Good and Evil (2022) and Cruella (2021).

Also consider Pinocchio (2020) whose nose extends upon telling lies, Barbie (2022) whose existence is rooted in ostentation, wealth and the superficial, and Disney’s Snow White (2024) that will be released as the Eris conjunct Chiron aspect starts in 2024. Also the two Wicked movies in the making.

PLUTO ASTROLOGICAL GLYPH

The latest is a film called Oppenheimer, and even though the film was delayed by COVID, how timely for the trailer of this film to be posted on the 19th of December 2022. Why? Between this day, and the first releasing of the film in July 2023, there is another very significant event that is right in the middle; Pluto's first ingress into Aquarius on 23 March 2023, which is a momentus occasion for mankind.

The film Oppenheimer is about J. Robert Oppenheimer, the American theoretical physicist credited with being the "father of the atomic bomb" for his role in the Manhattan Project—the World War II undertaking that developed the first nuclear weapons.

In astrology, Pluto is the planet of intensity, of destruction, transformation and rebirth. It entails releasing, wiping the slate clean, purging, and revealing truth. Pluto is the underbelly of deep emotion, power struggles, and what lies hidden beneath the surface. Pluto was named after Hades in Greek mythology, and although it is a small planet, it packs a powerful punch and is larger than life. Pluto rules Scorpio.

After its discovery in late 1940, the element plutonium was named after Pluto and atomic bombs were made from what came to be known as the most feared and fearsome substance on the entire periodic table. (Pluto was discovered 18 February 1930.)

Only trace amounts exist naturally on Earth. But by smashing atoms and particles together, it achieved nothing less than alchemy; transforming one element into another. With the addition of a proton, synthetic plutonium was created in 1940. Boom. After a new planet is discovered, it takes time to discover its qualities, and it is often in hindsight, that astrological and astronomical research unravel the mysteries.

Eris and Pluto are both trans-Neptunian- and Kuiper belt objects.

The first TNO to be discovered was Pluto in 1930. At first, it became the namesake of a larger group of resonant objects called plutinos. It took more than 60 years to discover a second TNO, Albion (provisionally known as 1992 QB1), in 1992. The largest known trans-Neptunian objects are Pluto and Eris, followed by Haumea and Makemake, all of them being officially recognised as dwarf planets by the IAU. There are also several dwarf planet candidates such as Gonggong, Quaoar, Sedna, and Orcus. By the time MakeMake was discovered, it was evident that it was time to make changes. The discovery of Makemake, together with that of Eris and Haumea, became a crucial point in redefining the requirements in classifying new planets. This led the International Astronomical Union to come up with the new class of “dwarf planet.” This new group ended the debate on what really constitutes a planet. Why? They are in the Kuiper belt along with Pluto. The newly discovered objects have very similar characteristics to Pluto. If they were to be considered planets, the number of planets that we have will keep on growing. This led astronomers to reclassify Pluto.

Above is a chart of Pluto’s first ingress into new zodiac sign; Aquarius. The bright yellow lines are all within a 3 degree orb, and the dull lines are just slightly out of the 3 degree orb afforded a Yod. The Sedna Yod, Haumea Yod and Vauna Yod are all within close orb, except for the Gongong Yod. Note that Varda is conjunct the Galactic Centre bringing her light infusion... Not all the aspect patterns are highlighted in this chart.

Pluto has an orbit around the sun of 248 years, where for Eris it is 558 years.

Pluto has been in Capricorn since 2008, and will transit Aquarius from 2023 to 2044, spending about 18 and a half years that sign in total, with a few dips in and out at either end due to retrograde motions. Here are some key dates:

  • Enters Aquarius on 23 March 2023

  • Retrogrades into Capricorn on 11 June 2023

  • Re-enters Aquarius on 21 January 2024

  • Final visit to Capricorn from 1 September 2024

  • Enters Aquarius to stay from 19 November 2024

  • Dips into Pisces on 9 March 2043

  • Final visit to Aquarius on 31 August 2043

  • Enters Pisces to stay on 19 January 2044

Pluto in Aquarius Astrological Significance

Pluto in Aquarius promises to be a challenging and revolutionary time that will turn society upside down, with the evolution of both society, science and technology. This new cycle in Aquarius that will ultimately bring a beneficial shift to society at large, rather than the small group that dominates from the top down. Pluto in Aquarius may be seen as about 20 years of levelling the playing field, so that power is shared more equitably. But it is not without initial birthing and growing pains… as is evident at present… Below is a slideshow that demonstrates the two Hammer of Thor aspect patterns (in red colour), that four trans-Neptunian objects make for many years to come. Pluto squares Haumea and makes a Hammer apex at around 15 degrees Gemini. MakeMake squares Ixion/Quaoar for many years as well, making a Hammer apex in the last degrees of Taurus.

Movie Oppenheimer, Plutonium as Source of Power, Toxicity and Pluto in Astrology

“I am become death, the destroyer of worlds” and the Start of the Atomic/Nuclear Age around 1930-1945.

After dropping one of the atomic bombs, this is what Robert Oppenheimer had said: “We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried, and most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita. Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty and to impress him takes on his multi-armed form and says, “Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds. I suppose we all thought that one way or another.’”

These lines were spoken by J. Robert Oppenheimer on a TV broadcast in 1967 as he reflected on witnessing the first test of the atomic bomb on 16 July 1945. (Eris in Aries turned retrograde around this date square Neptune). This is from a piece of Hindu scripture, “Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds”, and it is, perhaps, the most well-known line from the Bhagavad-Gita, but also the most misunderstood. Some say that his interest in Hinduism was his way of making sense of his actions. But Oppenheimer, seemingly, was never able to achieve peace, as he felt the consequences of the destruction of the atomic bomb acutely. The story of Oppenheimer’s relationship with his creation, and the consequences that it brought forth in the world, seems to have put him in an underworld experience over a long period of time, where he went into an inner exploration where the dark side of truths, justifications, weight on conscience, and moral conflicts regarding destruction, and liberation from troubling emotions and thoughts were considered. It is very much reflective of the other articles on the Pluto blog, and resonates with the Pluto discovery chart dissection. Listen to a recording of these famous words here.

The blast from the July 1945 test was four times bigger than estimated

On August 6, 1945, the United States dropped a nuclear weapon on Hiroshima, Japan, the first time such a catastrophic weapon was ever used in conflict. Three days later the U.S. released another on Nagasaki. The reasoning behind the attack seems to have been to destroy Japan’s ability to fight wars; to disable them. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were experiments in a new kind of warfare, whose full implications were not entirely understood at the time, yet World war !! started in 1939, and ended in September 1945.

Years later the Russell-Einstein Manifesto, argued that nuclear weapons “threaten the continued existence of mankind” and urged all governments to “find peaceful means for the settlement of all matters of dispute.”

According to his article, Oppenheimer claimed to carry “no weight on [his] conscience.” In his view, scientists were separated from the issues over the military use of the bomb. Those problems were for governments, not scientists. This separation did not shelter Oppenheimer from ethical struggles, nor prevent him from understanding the true meaning of the bomb’s development. Two years after Trinity, Oppenheimer told physicists the bomb “dramatized mercilessly the inhumanity and evil of modern war.” He went on to note “the physicists have known sin; and this is a knowledge they cannot lose.”

This article describes Oppenheimer’s fascination with the interactions between the prince and Vishnu:

“To understand why Oppenheimer was so fascinated with the book, we first need to understand the brief context of the Bhagavad Gita. This book is about a conflict of dialogue between a prince and a god (one of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu). The prince has an internal conflict and is uncertain about his actions, and Lord Krishna provides a philosophical insight to urge Prince Arjuna to fulfill his duties. It encompasses four basic principles namely lust, wealth, dharma, and moksha.

In the book, when Arjuna asks Lord Krishna to reveal his proper form, Krishna emerges as an omnipotent being of many arms. This imagery stuck within Oppenheimer’s mind. When he imagined the explosion of the Atomic Bomb, he thought that this is how it would look: a thousand radiant suns, bursting at once in the sky as is Lord Krishna is emerging in his proper form. The whole reason why Oppenheimer weighed in with the book was that he was seeking a reason, a consolation from someone to say that

“It is okay. That you have done your duty, and nothing more. And that the burden of sin is not to be bestowed upon you.'“

Oppenheimer was a scientist, and had an interest in it from that point of view. Yet he was shrouded with real-world consequences, and although the dropping of the bomb was for a ‘good reason’, he couldn’t phase out of the harm that had been done to innocent lives; as the concept of immortal souls often has no place in a scientifically inclined mind. He had to live with this burden until the very end.

This article describes, that the followup explosions killed 70,000 people instantly in Hiroshima, and 40,000 in Nagasaki; by December 1945, the death toll had risen to 140,000.

Thousands more died from their injuries, radiation sickness and cancer in the years that followed, bringing the toll closer to 200,000, according to the Department of Energy's history of the Manhattan Project.

"The impact of the bomb [on Hiroshima and Nagasaki] was so terrific that practically all living things — human and animal alike — were literally seared to death by the tremendous heat and pressure set up by the blast," Tokyo radio said in the aftermath of the explosion, according to a report by The Guardian in August 1945. But the damage did not end there. The radiation released from the explosion would cause further suffering in the times to come.

“ He (Oppenheimer) has crossed a barrier in his life - that he had brought this into existence - and what are our responsibilities towards each other, and humanity, when you start dealing with these kinds of existential technologies. Where is the line?
— Matt Damon on his role in the Movie Oppenheimer

Psychological Pluto in Astrology

This suffering in psychological astrology, can be likened to the suffering that the human undergoes as it takes on the journey of finding their way after having a rude awakening, often in the revelation of truth, ruthless abuse of power, or the cruelty and destruction of war born from people’s fear, insecurity and evil-mindedness, and having to make sense of where the human fits in, in this crazy world.

Pluto is the first of the trans-Neptunian objects which entails discovering soul connection, and the process to let go of all the illusions, distractions, limitations, temptations etc.; to ENDURE, TRANSFORM and BECOME NEW. Pluto is also about those desires by powermongers to control other people who are going through this process, to break glass ceilings, lift themselves out of limitations, and break free from the restrictions of mass consciousness gravity, see the examples in the Pluto Blog.

It’s death and rebirth, into quantum potential and soul connectedness. It’s emotional truth that can be explosive in terms of potential for transformational energy.

Pluto is about where POWER is derived from.

  • Lower expression Pluto derives power from obsessive control over other people and other low vibrational actions that result in destruction, suffering, pain, loss…

  • Higher expression Pluto entails the human integrating with the soul. It entails allowing the soul and its quantum potentials… for inside each cell in the human body there are atoms, and inside the atoms are what science calls ‘quanta’; it is in these open spaces where the quantum potentials of connecting to the soul lies. It’s the power-less life of those who have allowed the mastery of allowing the soul to be with the human - together being the divine having a human experience.

The Phoenix Rises from the Ashes of Ruin, Born Anew, and Replenished from within

There are many stories and myths that describe human progression through the stages of life and overcoming overwhelming obstacles, like the Hero’s Journey, the Phoenix Rising, Persephone rising as Queen of the Underworld, the dark night of the soul. Greek tragedies played out as a kind of healing journey towards wholeness via seeing themes in life play out, and experiencing the death of the ego sense of self, see the image to the right.

The Phoenix bird mythology originated in Greek Mythology, just like Pluto’s connection to Pluto/Hades Lord of the Underworld.

It is described as a bird which could live for a long period, and when the time comes for its death, it would burn up in flames and become reborn from the ashes. A more integrated Self is re-born. A similar legend is also found in Ancient Egyptian Mythology.

  • The fabled Phoenix bird is said to have a life span of around 500 years.

  • A full transit of Pluto around the sun is about 248 years.

  • A full transit of Eris around the Sun is about 556 years.

Both Pluto and Eris have been associated with the Phoenix Rising experience (both are trans-Neptunian and Kuiper belt objects), however, Eris may be a more pure reflection of the full expression of the energy, regarding major endings that lead to transformations…

Eris’ discovery chart has a massive alignment of Pluto/Scorpio/8th house themes in it. Both entail quantum potential as trans-Neptunian objects.

Pluto transits are known to be powerful, destructive, wiping the slate clean for a fresh start, so to speak. It’s transforming the pain of very dark experiences that may have been experienced during childhood, and learning the endurance to see truth and overcome the initial limiting effect. It’s coming out of victimhood, and it becoming a spiritual strength. But Eris transits may prove to be superior as an agent of total change through an elongated “death” experience; entailing going through the last vestiges of limitation as “only a human being”. It entails the life-changing process of connection to the authentic Self, Soul Self or Higher Self. Healthy sensing and feeling. In flow and temperance. Connected.

Soul connection and alignment - as a divine being having a human experience - is a common theme for the trans-Neptunian and Kuiper belt objects. It’s being ETERNALLY REPLENISHED from the inside out, no matter what happens in life, being able to draw on the inner resources within. This process entails allowing spontaneous change on an atomic level, due to the quantum potentials that comes with reconnecting the human with the divine.

The phoenix holds deep symbolism for Greece, and due to its recent history, it also holds common emotional pain. The phoenix is Greece's national bird because it symbolises Greece's endurance through the millennia as a nation. It’s learning to build break-throughs from break-downs, by going within.

The darker stripe in the centre of the image is because the picture is constructed from a long exposure designed to capture the comparatively faint satellites of Nix, Hydra, Kerberos and Styx, and a shorter exposure to capture Pluto and Charon, which are much brighter. Kerberos has an estimated diameter of 13 to 34 kilometres, and Styx is thought to be irregular in shape and 10 to 25 kilometres across. via Wikimedia Commons.
