Why is Pluto and Eris Energy so Similar, and Why do Astrologers Struggle to Differentiate?

The answer is surprisingly simple when you study both Eris and Pluto’s discovery charts. It becomes even more easier, when you study the Greek mythology connected to each. Getting a BIGGER PICTURE is easy, but it entails a lot of reading to understand… for the information is already available on this website… but who wants to do a ton of reading, and sift through large amounts of good evidence, to reach higher understanding?

In short, Eris’ discovery chart has an astonishing amount of Pluto / Scorpio /8th house themes and conjunctions.

The similarities are so great, yet when you mix that in with the mythology, the differences can become quite stark, as Eris lower expression energy is far more darker than Pluto lower expression…

eris versus pluto the differences and similarities

The Moon, Mercury and Mars are all involved in Eris energy’s “hitting a raw nerve” with chaos, due to them being either in Scorpio’s sign, house or conjunct Pluto, its planet of rulership. Mars is the traditional ruler of Scorpio, thus also at home in the 8th house.

  • Firstly, Eris’ discovery chart of Moon in Scorpio in the 7th house relates to other people. The Pluto blog has explained in detail why Pluto is also deeply embedded in being in relation with another, on multiple levels. In fact, the Moon is also in Scorpio in Pluto’s discovery chart, but in the 4th house, and multiple personal planets are in conjunctions.

  • In Eris’ discovery chart, Venus, Mercury, and Pluto is in conjunction. This is another highly in-relation dynamic. Pluto has 6 moons and has several complex relationship with other trans-Neptunian objects, like the vesica-pisces formation it makes with Orcus.

  • In Eris’ discovery chart, Mars is in the 8th house conjunct several other trans-Neptunian objects like Varda, Ixion, and Quaoar… This is potent, deep and dark, which this article described in great detail…

  • Scorpio is WATER SIGN which entails the involvement of deep emotions and strong intuition.

  • Scorpio is also a FIXED SIGN which entails to maintain, uphold and defend positions, goals or desires in situations (being stubborn, set in one’s ways and refusing to budge).

  • Pluto is highly skilled at emotional manipulation, power over dynamic, obsession and draining other’s energy as multiple signatures in Pluto’s discovery chart shows, and Eris energy takes that to another level, as the Eris blog shows.

  • Emotional truth is very important with this energy, and this is reflected in Pluto’s discovery chart by Pluto in Cancer and Moon in Scorpio being in mutual reception. Emotional relationship is potent, powerful and amplified in Pluto’s mythology as well, as was described in this article. Pluto in Cancer also trines Moon in Cancer, which is a beneficial aspect. They are both in Water signs, showing the importance and focus on DEEP emotions, control and power. This is another signature of someone who do not have airs and graces; who values emotional honesty, integrity and truth. This is the signature of utter EMOTIONAL TRUTH AND HONESTY, that Pluto transits demand, for change, release of the old, and allowing of new life. Just like Pluto lower expression, Eris’ discovery chart, has many signatures regarding the flipping of the script or narrative; deception, illusion, falsehood, gaslighting, lies, theft, etc.

Pluto, Scorpio and the 8th house are deeply imbedded in Eris energy as can be seen in the discovery chart, which is why Eris issues are often mistaken for Pluto issues. It is only by studying the two discovery charts, and the mythology, that the difference really becomes quite evident.

Eris’ mythology revolves around Greek goddess Eris of Discord and Strife throwing a golden apple marked ‘for the fairest’ into a wedding crowd, yet Eris energy in astrology is all about WHY Eris got scapegoated for staring the 10 year long Trojan War, which is a complicated story, because it was King of the gods Zeus who had planned the Trojan War with the help of oracle Themis. It was also Zeus who blamed Eris and kept the smear campaign in place, because he didn’t want to be seen for his dirty deeds against humanity. This epic drama about the dominoes that fell to start the Trojan War is documented in Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey. The story of Zeus’ scheme involving Eris is captured in this article. Zeus’ scheme to stage a defeat for war hero Achilles is described in this article, and finally Odysseus’ long voyage home is capture in this article. Eris was blamed for starting a lot of f****y (that was the brainchild of Zeus), and the Iliad and Odyssey tells of the long term consequences of making bad choices based in the low vibrational from having attempted to control other’s destiny.

Some of Pluto’s mythology is captured in the articles on the Pluto blog. Pluto’s relationship with Persephone/Kore/Proserpina and her mother Demeter/Ceres was complicated, but when compared to the discovery chart, Pluto energy becomes pure and distilled. In Pluto’s mythology, he and his mother-in-law both had a history of trying to control, manipulate, smother or block another’s destiny for their own selfish benefit and gain, to the point where it made Persephone extremely unhappy. Why? Both Pluto and her mother was trying to steal her growth into autonomy and sovereignty. They were thieves who wanted to control and stunt her life path, for it to suit them and their lifestyle being in relationship with her; that she remains small, unenlightened, and co-dependent. Yet in the Underworld, she found her way and still managed to rise into her personal power and authority, to sit on her own throne firmly and solidly. This relationship dynamic of the power monger is Pluto energy in astrology. This has double meaning, because Persephone/Prosperpina were forerunners in the naming of the newly discovered planet Eris. Eris is very much Persephone as well, who the power mongers wanted to control…

Chiron Wisdom and Healing Holds the Key to a Future with Great Potentials

Chiron is in the 10th house in both Pluto and Eris’ discovery charts and a major key in understanding.

For Pluto, Chiron conjuncts the North Node in Taurus, which entails that redemption for the power monger comes from healing themselves and their own stability, and the 10th house issues that they have about shining brightly in the house of public acclaim, and why they want to stunt other’s growth for their own status, position and how they are seen in the world.

In Eris’ chart, Chiron is in a grand cross tussle with Saturn and the Nodes of Fate, which is that great sorrow about being antagonised, scapegoated, and tarnished in the house of public acclaim, and then having the choice to either forgive and elevate anyway, or to become bitter, vengeful and hateful. The following would apply as it relates to the latter: “Slanderous tongued envy, with look of deadly hate. Rejoicing in the misfortunes of others”. This is how Greek poet Homer described lower expression Eris energy. Anyone who has ever been severely marginalised or disenfranchised by a power monger authority figure (who are threatened by their potential) would know what it feels like to be silenced and shoved into a corner, when they have a beautiful song to sing in the world, which is a contribution to the world in the house of public standing.

It is in being prevented from shining as true authentic Self that Eris/Persephone has the potential to turn toxic, bitter and hateful. Why is it that power mongers just want to keep their toxic power status quo in place, and what would the world look like if these players would allow these issues to heal, and allow people their individual sovereignty to shine, express themselves and be seen? The tenth house is about Eris having grown the authentic inner qualities to be seen in the world for unique, SAGE (Chiron) contribution and MERIT, and that being a problem for some authority figure, who won’t relinquish control…

Eris is the ADVOCATE who advocates for the rights of those who the authority figure/power monger want to keep small and stuffed in a box.

Both Eris and Pluto energies are about relationship dynamics, and the toxicity it can generate when one has to oppress the other to feel a certain way about themselves. It’s about the power monger who had been thinking that they had the right to dominate others due to the innate powerful energy that feeling entitled Pluto energy carry. Yet learning about the consequences of perpetuating sabotage or injustices on others, or removing beautiful people from society tarnishing their reputation. It’s about the Plutonian who hold others back due to their own deep seated fears, who has to heal into higher expression, as Pluto did when his presence in Persephone’s life helped her to elevate onto her throne, for them to be equals in the Underworld where truth is seen and known. It’s also about how the marginalised can rise into greatness after their own elevation in their own abundant energy, which is Eris higher expression potential.

When we study Eris’ and Pluto’s discovery charts as it relates to the 10th house and the Nodes of Fate, both has a powerful destiny in the 10th house, which is why they are at odds about it, and also why they should not be in odds about it.

Pluto was discovered in 1930 and Eris in 1995, that is a massive difference.

Both are trans-Neptunian and Kuiper belt objects, with Soul Purpose.

What does this mean on a Practical Level?

The Eris square Pluto transit that started in January 2020 with five direct hits into 2021, is still in orb of influence, and it was the perfect storm amalgamation.

Today we see different attitudes from power mongers. Australia’s media has been dominated by information about the rise to prominence of the Aboriginal people who had been the Eris marginalised and disenfranchised for many generations under British rule. It’s a fine example of this relationship dynamic playing out, where people with wisdom and merit, are having the foot removed from their necks and allowed to shine for the valuable contribution that they have, and the beautiful song that they bring into the mix of life. Australians are also increasingly desiring to become a republic, no longer bound to an influence that is increasingly seen has being dominating and unfair to the sovereignty of individuals or groups of them. The World's Biggest LGBTQIA+ Festival, WorldPride, also kicks off in Sydney this month, which is the first ever event in the southern hemisphere that brings more self-love, acceptance and inclusion of people who are different and want to be accepted for their uniqueness and their preferences in the public eye.

Stunting the beauty and growth of others will no longer be tolerated by a society that carry this CONSCIOUSNESS, with multiple Eris transits back to back from 2020 - 2028+, and Pluto in Aquarius carrying us into a brighter future of equality and harmony.
