Gonggong Transits and Lessons from Extreme Situations regarding Disaster Preparedness

At the end of 2023, some very high rainfalls caused utter devastation on the entire east coast of Australia, even prompting the deployment of the Australian Defence Force to deal with LIFE THREATENING flash floods, heavy rain, thunderstorms affecting power outages, trees falling on houses, and winds ripping roofs off from houses etc. The heavy rain storm events was so severe that it even extended to the south east and the state of Victoria, with the latter not normally receiving rain in mid summer. These wild weather disasters continued into the new year, with central Japan suddenly experiencing devastating earthquakes, landslides, a tsunami warning, find the details in another article. We saw in the media the devastation in remote Japanese towns and how the infrastructure was so damaged, that much needed rescue, aid, food and water could not reach the needy in cities in and around Wajima and Suzu in time that they would have wanted. Thousands of rescuers from all over Japan have been battling with roads littered with gaping holes and blocked by frequent landslides in the Ishikawa region to reach hundreds of people in stranded communities.
There has also been a reported more than 150 aftershocks since the quake, making life challenging for rescue dogs and handlers searching for missing persons. Then there was the irony of a coast guard plane being involved in a plane crash with a larger passenger jet at a Haneda airport, Tokyo runway, which seems to highlight just how RESTRICTED those who wanted to help really were, since the smaller plane was on a third emergency trip to the earthquake zone within 24 hours. There was a great URGENCY in Japan, because due to near freezing temperatures and stints of continuous rainfall, it was less likely to find survivors under the rubble beyond three days after the 7.6 magnitude earthquake had struck. The 72 hour rescue window was closing fast, and it was a situation of having to make IMPOSSIBLE CHOICES, that would see people between a rock and a hard place, no matter what. There were multiple stories in the news of the media and also those who wanted to provide aid, struggling greatly to make the trek from one point into the most affected areas, because the roads were so severely damaged; traveling took double or triple the amount of the usual time.
It is a situation that was very difficult and challenging to remedy, with so many restrictive elements at play. This is the reasoning behind the writing of this article; to understand these highly challenging situations that seem to be associated with Gonggong in astrology, and to examine how a conjunction made by transiting Saturn in WATER sign Pisces, might have contributed to the difficulties that were clearly at display, making them more pronounced, for astrological study.
In the bigger picture, there seem to be a great lesson that can be learnt from having COMPASSION, with the painful situation, with the people and with one’s self. It is what it is; a natural disaster that some avoided and others not.
Earthquake-resilience and Disaster Preparedness Inequities from the New Year 2024 Earthquake in Japan
This article explains why Japan has a deserved reputation for its earthquake-resistant construction technology. Located on the Pacific “ring of fire”, the country is the most seismically active in the world, experiencing about 1,500 noticeable quakes a year. Buildings constructed after 1981 are designed to withstand even powerful earthquakes. Being on the upper floor of a swaying Tokyo skyscraper during a powerful quake can be deeply unsettling, but there is an expectation that the structure will remain upright, thanks to innovations including massive soft rubber cushions installed beneath the foundations, shock absorbers on each floor and, in some cases, enormous pendulums at the top to counteract the movement of the building.
However, the Noto Peninsula area disaster of new year’s day affected an area where an overwhelming aging population lived in houses of mostly more than 50 years old. These did not meet these stringent design codes.
Many of these elderly people were not able to carry the cost of replacing the heavy kawara clay tiles that many have on their roves, that caved in on houses as they were shaking, for lighter materials. Based on news reports, it seems likely that many cannot afford to rebuild their houses according to the new regulations, else they might have done this sooner to mitigate the risks. This disaster highlighted the gap between isolated, depopulated communities such as Wajima and Suzu, where 78 people had been reported dead as of Friday, and cities such as Tokyo, 450km away, where money is spent on “earthquake-resilient” infrastructure, that will grow in value, due to its popular location.
This video shows Japanese residents in some of the hardest hit areas visiting their destroyed homes, looking for relatives, and queue for free food and water. Some homes are damaged beyond repair, and others have no sanitation, electricity, nor water supply, making homes ‘uninhabitable’. Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida urged citizens to stay clam as rescue was underway.

Gonggong conjunct Saturn in Pisces
Trans-Neptunian object Gonggong is an object famously connected with large scale landslides, floods that wreak the kind of havoc seen during ‘once in a centuary’ disasters, and the lack of disaster preparedness due to the massive scale of natural disaster devastation. Saturn, that had been retrograding over Gonggong in the early degrees of Pisces, is now direct and moving to conjunct it again. Saturn is at 3 degrees and Gonggong is at 4 degrees Pisces. Gonggong is also at the apex of a yod that first went into close orb some years ago, and will continue to, but is not currently in tight orb, as both faster moving MakeMake and Varuna in sextile is out of orb. Saturn transits encourages individuals and the human collective to establish a solid foundation, set clear boundaries, and work diligently towards their ambitions. Saturn cycles can be considered cycles of achievement and maturity, after having built on ‘solid ground’. However, these periods in our lives can also feel like trials, lessons and depression, because Saturn is also considered the planet of restrictions, hitting brick walls, struggling and failing. Astrological Saturn acts as a barrier between the conscious and unconscious experience, as it is the last planet visible to the naked human eye, and is frequently the instigator of suppression and repression. Rain Saturated Soils in Australia and Disaster Management:
As this disaster in Japan unfolds, eastern, south eastern, and south Australia has been hit for the last week+ with some of the heaviest rain, severe thunderstorms, water saturated soils, and flash flood disasters back to back. More is expected in areas like SE Queensland with its 350mm new year deluge. This as Neptune in watery home sign Pisces is making a mad dash in the last decan, towards the 29th crises degree (see the Neptune blog).
Christmas and Boxing day were both tragic for Australians on multiple levels, and the Australian Defence Force were deployed to assist with storm relief. As evacuation orders are issued in Victoria, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is discussing the ECONOMIC IMPACTS of NATURAL DISASTERS at the Gold Coast DISASTER MANAGEMENT centre. Natural disasters are said to be a multi-million dollar hit to the economy every year, also with flow on effects on the production, supply chain and prices of food and cost of living, which is already a major problem in Australia, and headache for government.
Heavy Rain Saturation, Floods and Flood Resilience in Britain:
Many other parts of the globe are also experiencing a tremendous amount of rainfall, so that roads were inaccessible and businesses under water. The midlands and southern England had been worst affected, however, flood warnings have been activated country wide. The UK’s Prime Minister Rishi Sunak reassured the pubic that everything was being done by the Environmental agency on the ground. See the video to the right to learn more about what the Environmental Agency is doing to mitigate the risks to communities, especially as a health warning was issues due to temperatures, ice, fog and frost setting in soon, especially for the highly vulnerable. It also details how the Labor party is calling for a “cobra” style task force to “tackle this problem”, which in essence entail meeting ahead of these rain episodes and putting planning in place. Various other politicians also spoke about how they have been urging the government to do more for a long time, because lack of flood defences is affecting the homes, businesses and livelihoods of many. Drains need to be cleaned, and what starts as little brooks, dikes and springs lead to rivers, and should be managed better. The soil is tremendously water saturated, and that is perhaps at the heart of the problem. Hundreds of flood warnings and alerts remain in place.
Heavy Flooding in Germany and France:
This video shows parts of norther Germany hit by floods after weeks of rain. Rising floodwaters have put dykes at risk of collapse. Our reporter went to a village in Lower Saxony, which was hit particularly hard and is now bracing for the danger of collapsing dykes. Another video shows the regions of Lower Saxony and Thuringia in Germany and Brittany and Nord-Pas-de-Calais, which remains on red alert in France, face particularly harsh flooding due to heavy rainfall.
Hammer on Uranus, Algol and object 55637 in Taurus
On the day of the first Japan January 2024 earthquake, the Sun had been triggering an aspect pattern that Quaoar is involved in. The transiting Sun was conjunct trans-Neptunian object Quaoar at 9 degrees Capricorn making a square to MakeMake at 10 degrees Libra. Together they make a Hammer of Thor aspect pattern on Uranus, malefic fixed star Algol in Taurus, and a yet unnamed trans-Neptunian object listed as 55637 (from the list of the brightest Kuiper belt object as viewed from Earth). Lilith was at 23 degrees Scorpio. See the chart below, which is dated just a few days prior.
Jolting Uranus is the planet most associated with earthquakes, and earthquakes that lead to tsunamis… and Uranus in fixed earth sign Taurus doesn’t bode well for the infrastructure on the land. What used to be strong and stable, is moving under people’s feet; it is a classic expression of the astrological energy. Note in one of the charts below that trans-Neptunian object Quaoar is currently involved in a free flowing GRAND EARTH TRINE.
Uranus is currently retrograde at 19 degrees Taurus, but will turn direct later this month on the 27th of January 2024.
Uranus is currently not directly at the Hammer apex, but had been in 2023, and will be again later in 2024. This is documented well in other articles on this website and in the calendar. This information is not meant as scaremongering… as the earth will release tension when it needs to, no matter the astrology.
Unnamed Trans-Neptunian and Kuiper belt objects Blog and the Strange Current Astrology
There are many other aspect patterns that have been at play since Co-Vid started, like the Sedna yod, Haumea Yod, Gonggong Yod and the Varuna Yod, but they do not seem to be so prominent at present…. which is why the Unnamed Objects blog was started. So strange was the astrology in the last days of 2023, that the writer of this article started a new blog to document the movements, aspects and aspect patterns of some of the brightest Kuiper belt objects that have not been named yet.

Conclusion:
It would seem that the transiting Sun on Quaoar potentially triggered the Hammer of Thor apex on Uranus in Taurus, and transiting Saturn is activating the Gonggong yod apex not currently in orb, yet the energies have been activated multiple times in the last couple of years. The image below shows MakeMake conjunct an eclipse later this year, and note how MakeMake in Libra is both a leg in the Gongong yod and the Hammer of Thor apex on Uranus, Algol.
