Eris in Astrology Resources: Books, Podcasts, Free to view, and for Sale

What do Astrologers say about Eris in Astrology?

This website provides free resources on Astrological Eris, however, there are other external resources that are free to view, or for sale, and perhaps worth investing in. I have not read all the books. And I have not listened to all the podcasts. They are arranged below, in no particular order other than date posted… They are listed here for the enjoyment of those who would like to study, and understand Eris’ higher purpose, and dark expression better. I will update this article when I find more interesting, worthy additions. Some astrologers have noted, that in future, the positive expression of Eris will be understood as the soul. Currently, however,

the negative expression is quite evident. Some people’s insecurities are triggered by those around them, they may feel envy stirring, and feel that they want more than their fair share. Eris is in Aries, which is a selfish and self-orientated sign. Doing what is right for your Self, and setting up boundaries, can be healthy. A little bit of selfishness can go a long way, but in the negative expression, this can go too far… which is the case right now… Astrologer Steven Forrest had the following to say on the current Eris/Pluto square. I loved it so much, that I decided to put it at the top of this article. May this information bless your life.

The single most reliable thing I have found in astrology is that everything has a front, and a back. Every symbol has a higher purpose, as well as a dark side.

Vicious competitiveness is the dark side of Eris. She likes to win, but not as much as she likes to see you lose. Her bright side, lies in the way competition can bring out a person’s excellence.
— Steven Forrest, astrologer

In a recent podcast astrologer Steven Forrest details that each planet has a higher purpose, and a dark side. And Eris is no different, see the quote. He says that the Greek poet Hesiod points out that much effort and creativity is triggered when “potter is angry with potter, and craftsmen with craftsmen, and beggar is jealous of beggar, and minstrel of minstrel”. As a result of their competitiveness, they might all make an effort simply to improve. It might not be pretty, but we all get better pots and better music.

Steven also talks about Pluto, which is currently in a square to Eris. “Working at his best, the lord of the underworld, helps to bring unconscious material to the surface. Pluto is the part of us that can squarely face difficult truths, but when we make a weak response instead, those difficult truths manifest in your life, instead of showing up in your head and your heart, in the form of liberating insights. At such times, the shadow grabs the steering wheel of your life, we hurt her, and we often hurt other people too. The square, joining Eris and Pluto currently, is always an aspect of friction. Friction can be creative, and it is often highly motivating, but with any square, we can also see two planets potentially bringing the worst in each other. And given the edgy natures of both Pluto and Eris, that in worst case scenario is a scary prospect, I want to look the devil straight in the eye here, but I promise that before we are done, we will consult a few angels as well. Nothing in astrology happens without a higher purpose. The is true of this Pluto/Eris square…”

Also, this is what astrologer Divine Harmony had to say about the importance of understanding Eris’ role in the 21st century:

“This is an amazing time for shadow work. I am partial to it, and the astrology is ripe for this level of work; turning towards all our stuff, instead of projecting it out, being in denial, avoiding it, sweeping it under the carpet. Because the shadow we don’t know, we don’t own, can run us, and can actually trip us up. But the shadow we turn towards, to work with, becomes a whole other level of operating. It becomes an ally. It becomes empowerment. It becomes information that helps us become more centred into our adult self, so that we are not slipping into these patterns of triggers and reactionary ways of being. So we can catch ourselves, and understand the motive underneath it, the wounding, so that we can choose differently… This is the work that is going to heal and transform the world.”

The Tenth Planet

Henry Seltzer

It's not often that a professional is on the cutting edge of his field but Henry Seltzer is no stranger to breaking new ground in astrology. In this latest contribution, he graces us with pioneering insights on Eris - a dwarf planet that he proves deserves consideration. The pages are filled with well researched chart examples and analysis supporting his archetypal views on how Eris functions in a horoscope. This book deserves space in your mind and on your shelf; Seltzer's contributions on Eris is a definite enhancement to astrological theory.

Maria DeSimone www.InsightfulAstrology.com

In this cogent study of Eris, Henry Seltzer is doing bold, groundbreaking work on the astrological frontier. I've marveled at the slowness of the astrological community to embrace this new planet despite its being slightly bigger than Pluto. Perhaps that is because these new worlds always represent new, emerging possibilities in consciousness, and thus tend to frighten people. Thank you, Henry, for not being afraid. Steven Forrest, author of The Inner Sky Mr. Seltzer's book on Eris offers groundbreaking research into the field of astrology. His description of Eris in each of the houses is eye-opening and offers fresh insights into an area of life in which we need to develop the feminine warrior aspect of ourselves as part of our life purpose.

Discovering Eris: The Symbolism and Significance of a New Planetary Archetype

Keiron Le Grice

In astrology, each planet in our solar system is symbolically associated with specific archetypes, characteristics, themes and patterns in human experience. The discovery in 2005 of Eris -- a dwarf planet beyond Pluto -- was therefore an event of great significance for astrology as well as astronomy. In this unique book, Keiron Le Grice considers the astrological significance of Eris. How, he asks, can we determine Eris's meaning? What archetypal themes is it associated with? In what ways might the myths of Eris, the Greek goddess of strife, be relevant to the astrological meaning? What can Eris's discovery tell us about the evolutionary challenges we now face? Drawing on a wide variety of perspectives -- including mythology, ecology, religion, history, philosophy and Jungian psychology -- Le Grice carefully constructs a multi-faceted picture of Eris's possible meaning, helping to illuminate the unprecedented events of our time and providing clues to our possible future directions.

The Uninvited Goddess: Awakening to a New Era

Judith Perry Carpenter

The Uninvited Goddess: Awakening to a New Era offers stories of experiences in the life of a woman priest that awakened her longing for healing and greater oneness in the human community. The “uninvited goddess,” is Eris, the reputed trouble-maker whose actions revealed the self-centered greed that launched the Trojan War. Eris is also the name of our newest planet and aptly characterises our troubled times. The Eris myth of the uninvited goddess illustrates the theme of the book: Everyone must be invited to the party; everyone must have a seat at the table or war and disaster result!

Eris or Proserpine?: In search of the real name and meaning of a new planet

Raimo Nikula

Raimo Nikula's book on Eris is not quite according to the main current in astrology, but he presents an ample collection of examples which prove his point - as far as it is possible at all. Not Eris - the sower of discord, but a part of the underground triangle, Pluto/Hades (Father), Ceres/Demeter (Mother) and Eris - aka Proserpina/Persephone (daughter). To understand Eris, we have to think her as a part of a mythic family, which present subconscious urges and motives stemming from closeness - mixed feelings of dependencies between mother and father and their daughter. In this mythic triangle, Proserpine/Eris easily becomes a pawn in power games between other family members. Taking Eris at a face value=name is the interpretation misses the point, author says. Most of the interpretations of Eris is not about Eris as such, but they seem to be descriptions of Eris present sign, Aries. By looking into lives of famous people, who had strong Eris, we can expand our understanding this mysterious new (small) planet. The belief that every new planet name corresponds its meaning, should be challenged as a questionable shortcut to truth. We will not know what Eris means unless we collect data and link Eris to individual-psychological as well as universal and collective phenomena. That is what this book aims to do...

Brother Pluto, Sister Eris

Thomas Canfield

History has been full of battles, wars, and times of upheaval that lead to greater struggles. What if we were to look at these events as crime scenes, in which murder takes place at an extreme level? If we were to examine each crime scene, we would find two persons of interest who would bear closer attention. These persons of interest are Pluto, Lord of the Underworld, and Eris, Lady of Discord. Today, we know them only as dwarf planets, far out at the edge of the solar system. Yet, by observing their orbits and aspects, we can see that they appear at the crime scenes of the most violent events of history.

When there have been cooperative aspects between these two dwarf planets, that was when the biggest struggles have taken place, such as World War II, the Taiping Rebellion, and the Thirty Years War. Challenging aspects between the dwarf planets have shown confused fighting, lopsided victories, and achievements which seem good at the time but which bring disaster later on. Conjunctions between these bodies can be a time of treachery, leading to a collapse of international power.

This book examines 800 years of major aspects between these two bodies. Their appearances at times of trouble are well-documented. Astrological charts for the events provide snapshots of the crime scenes, with these bodies making a connection. There are also charts for historical figures taking part in these upheavals, with descriptions of how the dwarf planet transits were aspecting their natal charts. Keep reading…

The Age of Eris

Steven Forrest

Growth doesn’t come easily. That is true for individuals, but it is true for nations as well. When humanity discovers a new planet, we are pressing out in the direction of new collective frontiers. Invariably, events arise synchronistically which push us toward our limits.

We can see that reality reflected in the social changes around the discoveries of Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. We are seeing it now. Eris was discovered in 2005, and ever since it was detected, the world has been in chaos. Eris’s current square aspect to Pluto has intensified the drama. If there is any single 100% reliable principle in astrology, it is that every planet has both a higher purpose and the deep shadow.

What is humanity stretching to learn now in the Age of Eris? All the noise, violence, and hatred in the daily headlines derives fundamentally from our struggles – and our failures – to integrate the higher possibilities of this new planet. How can we get it right? How can astrologers help? What will it take to save the world?

The Future in the Stars: The Astrological Message for 2012 & Beyond

Alison Chester-Lambert

Predicting changes and trends for the future, this fascinating exploration debunks the myths surrounding 2012 to provide a logical and spiritual theory. Wild claims and bad astronomy have fuelled a doomsday sensation about that energetic and special year, yet little or none is mentioned about the key planets sending the messages—Pluto, Chiron, Cere, Makemake, Eris, and Sedna, as well as some newly discovered planets. This resource delves deep into these important astrological beings to reveal what will really happen in 2012 and how the gods and goddess of these planets will help humanity navigate financial, social, and physical revolutions. Part history, scientific theory, and spiritual insight, this cutting-edge contention provides an understanding not only of 2012 but also of the transformations that will follow.

“At the moment of losing the job, a lot of times people say, “Oh my God, what am I going to do? I lost my job.” And then 10 years later they say, “that was the day that was the best day of my life when I lost my job.” It’s a question of perspective and understanding that everything serves to further. That there’s a spiritual component to everything that happens to us. And it gives us a way, in this modern world, to connect to a spiritual source that’s within us, deep within us. And that comes through nature, through every experience we have… when we know what to look for.“
— Henry Seltzer, astrolger (from a podcast on Eris)
