Chiron Energy in Astrology and the Merit of Alchemist Asclepius Who Surpassed his Father and Mentor

This article is part 5 of the Chiron and the Merit Making of the Wise Mentor’s Discovery Chart Series, that looks at the discovery chart of Chiron the great teacher, instructor, and wounded healer. Chiron had energetic sensitivity, a moral compass, substance, character, and just like his adoptive father Apollo took him in, nurtured him, taught him and saw him become a man of greatness, Chiron had also taken in Apollo’s own son called Asclepius. Chiron also lived to experience the pain of having this star student turned visionary slain by Zeus, who saw Asclepius as a threat to the status quo in Olympus society. Chiron was the half man, half centaur who rose from massive rejection, isolation and wounding, OVERCOMING into possibly one of the most valuable, principled, respected men of his time.

This information is important, as Eris conjunct Chiron in astrology, in 2024, 2025 and 2026, and understanding the dynamics of this transit, will be important to help humanity, especially since both Eris and Chiron seem to have similar issues, rooted in Greek mythology, with petty antagonists Zeus and jealous Hera at play in both the mythology and discovery charts. Both discovery charts has Mars in the 8th house, and Sun at its zenith in the 10th house, and this elaborates on the previous articles about Zeus who had a massive problem with these men of fine qualities associated with his half-brother Chiron, who upset his apple cart, who the mean-spirited felt he needed to be rid of in an attack… in order to be ahead of everyone else…

This article looks at Asclepius in Chiron’s discovery chart, and the role he played in Chiron’s life as was written in the lead up to a solar eclipse conjunct Chiron in Aries.

Chiron was the educated, civilised centaur who only bore a physical resemblance to other Centaurs, who were savages. Chiron would become well versed in many different academic fields, including medicine, music, prophecy and hunting, and it was said by some that Chiron was the inventor of medicine and surgery. Esteemed Greeks sent their sons to be tutored by Chiron.

This article further explores Chiron’s wound, which is about the egotistical LACK OF RESPECT for the things that were important to Chiron, like the value and worth of his time, his energy, his home base, his family connections, his students, and his sincere investment and devotion in nurturing young boys into growth and expansion, in a balanced way.

Some people did not meet the high standards that Chiron had of them. Chiron did not expect to be thrown under the bus, blocked, or taken down (Chiron conjunct Sedna in the discovery chart) for all the kind effort he put in to being generous with others, for the betterment of all.

Chiron had a pure heart of gold, and it was not reciprocated nor reflected back to him; some did not initially want to show him the love that he deserved, instead making misjudgements on his appearance and wanting reward without effort at his expense.

Slow and steady wins the race Chiron was all about making the RIGHT CHOICES and creating a level playing field, yet others indulgent, arrogant, materialistic, entitled, in greed and in stinginess would not allow that to be so… with win-at-all-cost battles. Yet in the end, hubristic Zeus - who wanted to make himself look better for status - himself, would publicly have to hand Chiron ‘his flowers’… by immortalising Chiron as the brightest constellation in the night sky called Centaurus, as was detailed in part 1. Such irony…

Who was Asclepius, the Healing Aspect of the Medical Arts in Mythology?

According to Wikipedia, Asclepius is the son of Apollo and Coronis, or Arsinoe, or of Apollo alone, but Apollo sent his son, like his half-brother, Aristaeus, to have his formal education under wise teacher Chiron who instructed him in the art of medicine.

As he grew up, Asclepius was taught everything that Chiron knew about herbs, medicine and surgery, and this became the basis through which Asclepius became known as the Greek god of Medicine. All of the heroes taught by Chiron though had some understanding of advanced medicine, but Asclepius was able to take the knowledge, pay attention to the details, and specialise in a particular area.

It is commonly said that Asclepius became so proficient as a healer that he surpassed both Chiron and his father, Apollo. Asclepius was able to evade death and to bring others back to life from the brink of death and beyond. So much so, that Hades (Pluto) complained to his brother Zeus about the theft. According to some versions of the mythology, Zeus was afraid that Asclepius would teach the art of resurrection to other humans as well…

Asclepius is a hero and god of medicine in ancient Greek religion and mythology. Asclepius represents the healing aspect of the medical arts; his daughters, the "Asclepiades", are: Hygieia ("Health, Healthiness"), Iaso (from "healing, recovering, recuperation", the goddess of recuperation from illness), Aceso (healing", the goddess of the healing process), Aegle (the goddess of good health) and Panacea (the goddess of universal remedy). He has several sons as well. He was associated with the Roman/Etruscan god Vediovis and the Egyptian Imhotep. He shared with Apollo the epithet Paean ("the Healer").

The rod of Asclepius, a snake-entwined staff, (similar to the caduceus) remains a symbol of medicine today.

According to Wikipedia, this rod is also known as the Staff of Aesculapius and as the asklepian, is a serpent-entwined rod wielded by the Greek god Asclepius, who was associated with healing and medicine. In modern times, it is the predominant symbol for medicine and health care, although it is sometimes confused with the similar caduceus, which has two snakes and a pair of wings.

Curiously, the original Hippocratic Oath began with the invocation "I swear by Apollo the Healer and by Asclepius and by Hygieia and Panacea and by all the gods ..."

“The serpent and the staff appear to have been separate symbols that were combined at some point in the development of the Asclepian cult. The significance of the serpent has been interpreted in many ways; sometimes the shedding of skin and renewal is emphasized as symbolizing REJUVENATION, while other assessments center on the serpent as a symbol that unites and expresses the dual nature of the work of the Apothecary Physician, who deals with LIFE, DEATH, SICKNESS AND HEALTH. The ambiguity of the serpent as a symbol, and the contradictions it is thought to represent, reflect the ambiguity of the use of drugs, which can help or harm, as reflected in the meaning of the term pharmakon, which meant "drug", "medicine", and "poison" in ancient Greek. However the word may become less ambiguous when "MEDICINE" is understood as something that heals the one taking it because it poisons that which afflicts it, meaning medicine is designed to kill or drive away something and any healing happens as a result of that thing being gone, not as a direct effect of "medicine". Products deriving from the bodies of snakes were known to have medicinal properties in ancient times, and in ancient Greece, at least some were aware that snake venom that might be fatal if it entered the bloodstream could often be imbibed. Snake venom appears to have been 'prescribed' in some cases as a form of therapy.”

Part 1 in the Chiron Discovery Chart Series discusses in detail the symbolism behind the venom of the hydra, which was a serpentine monster with nine heads that Hera nurtured with hate towards Heracles, which had the opposite effect; profound and unbearable pain for Chiron. There is a polarity here, regarding a substance that either heals, or profoundly wounds that is at play.

Hera was jealous of the LIGHT OF DIVINITY coursing through Zeus’ illegitimate son Hercules. This is the same LIGHT which Chiron found inside of himself, which paired with IMAGINATION brought forth profound potentials. This is what Chiron taught all his own students to access as well, as everyone has the potential to access it within, not only those who proclaim themselves gods. This LIGHT is the root of the cockamamie, because there was jealousy, envy and toxic behaviour, because of some ‘perceived’ to have it, and others not.

What does the Discovery Chart of Chiron Indicate Regarding some of the Courageous Star Students of Chiron?

The discovery chart of Chiron tells quite the story regarding Chiron energy as it pertains to his students and his adoptive child… as will be discussed in this article. Out of all his students, asteroid Asclepius is possibly the closest in orb to Chiron in Taurus…

ASTROLOGICAL GLYPH FOR CHIRON

  • In the astrology chart, Chiron conjunct Sedna at 3/4 degrees Taurus is opposed to asteroid Asclepius at 1 degree Scorpio conjunct asteroid Hygeia at 5 degrees Scorpio. Asclepius was the student of Chiron, and Hygeia was Asclepius’ daughter who is seen in ancient art as assisting her father in healing work. This is the image of Chiron passing on a positive linage to his students, who did not participate in the sins of the fathers as was described in the part 3 article.

  • Chiron/Sedna in Taurus is square asteroid Hercules at 8 degrees Aquarius, asteroid Themis at 6 degrees Aquarius, asteroid Lilith at 6 degrees Aquarius and Hermes at 8 degrees Aquarius. Hercules was a student of Chiron, and was involved in the wound by the hydra’s poison, and ultimately the voluntary death of Chiron with some versions of mythology saying that Hercules went to his father Zeus to strike a deal for the ending of Chiron’s unbearable suffering.

  • Chiron/Sedna in Taurus was square to Mars at 2 degrees Leo.

  • Chiron/Sedna at 3 degrees Taurus is also in trine to asteroid Apollo at 0 degrees Virgo conjunct Saturn at 29 degrees Leo. Apollo was Chiron’s foster father and Cronus (Saturn) was his biological father.

  • Chiron/Sedna in Taurus sextiles Jupiter (Zeus in Roman mythology) at 6 degrees Cancer, and together they make a Yod aspect pattern apex on asteroid Jason at 3 degrees Sagittarius. Jason was another one of Chiron’s students, and the leader of the Argonauts was, in some versions, raised by Chiron.

  • Chiron/Sedna in Taurus is also at the Hammer of Thor apex of Neptune at 14 degrees Sagittarius squaring asteroid Achilles conjunct Uranian hypothetical object Zeus at 16-17 degrees Virgo. Achilles was Chiron’s most notable student, who died in the Trojan War which was the brainchild of Zeus king of the gods, to cause Achilles to fall flat on his face in society, because Zeus’ narcissistic idea about himself as a king on a pedestal, felt threatened by Achilles, and a prediction over his life that he would become a great man indeed.

  • Chiron/Sedna in Taurus at 3 degrees squares Mars in Leo at 2 degrees and makes a Hammer of Thor apex on Neptune at 14 degrees Sagittarius. This is the image of the massive focus and great psychic sensitivity astrologers often associate with Chiron energy in astrology and psychology.

  • In Chiron’s discovery chart, asteroid Pholus is at 15 degrees Pisces and in a water grand trine with the Moon in Cancer and Uranus / Ixion / Mercury in Scorpio. Pholus in mythology was another civilised centaur who was a friend of Heracles, which were killed by the poisoned arrow with the Learnean hydra’s blood on it, when Chiron was only wounded to suffer in agony.

A Respected Family Linage Rooted in Healing, Health, Beauty and Wellbeing?

Positive role-model Chiron taught all of his students how to access the DIVINE LIGHT inside of themselves, and with the allowing of their IMAGINATION, they brought forth GREAT POTENTIALS, some of which actually manifested in feats that were astounding to bystanders.

Below is a fresco depicting the ‘family linage’ of Apollo, who was Chiron’s foster father and also the biological father of Asclepius, who Chiron raised and taught to be an excellent healer.

Remember that in Chiron’s own discovery chart, Chiron is in Taurus in the fourth house. This family linage did good for society, and was not at all like the bad fruits of other family linage’s, as described in previous articles in the Chiron Discovery chart series, like the biological linage of Uranus/Cronus or the linage of Ixion who brought forth the race of the Centaurs through a disgraceful act.

According to Wikipedia, Apollo had been Zeus’ son by Leto. Apollo was recognised as a god of archery, music and dance, truth and prophecy, healing and diseases, the Sun and light, poetry, and more. One of the most important and complex of the Greek gods, he is the son of Zeus and Leto, and the twin brother of Artemis, goddess of the hunt. He is considered to be the most beautiful god and is represented as the ideal of the kouros (ephebe, or a beardless, athletic youth).

It is this beautiful physical appearance that would cause a stir in the next generation; due to Asclepius’ beauty, in more ways than one

All of Asclepius’ daughters are said to be divinities related somehow to WELLBEING, while all his sons were HEALERS. He was married to Epione, goddess of soothing. They were Laso and Telesphorus, goddess an god of recuperation; Hygieia, goddess of cleanliness; Aglaea, goddess of good health; Panacea, goddess of remedy; Aceso, goddess of healing; Machaon and Podalirius, gifted healers of the Trojan War; and Aratus, a healer. A great family wealth indeed, but in the Trojan War this practise ended up working against Zeus’ secret depopulation agenda that he had concocted with Themis (with a M)

In Chiron’s discovery chart, asteroid Asclepius is in the 10th house Scorpio in conjunction with Pallas Athena as well as the Sun and trans-Neptunian object Varda. From a certain point of view, Asclepius shone in the public eye as a light, very wise and accomplished, in rising the dead from the underworld, which can also be seen as a metaphor for rising people into a new age, beyond that which Zeus had established.

Asclepius’ Fame in Surpassing Chiron, and Apollo as Healer?

Also his Zeus-like Facial Features Inheritance?

Image: Asclepios via Wikimedia Commons.

Zeus was the biological father to Apollo, and Apollo sired Asclepius, yet Asclepius was given to Chiron to raise and teach as healer.

According to Wikipedia, Asclepius became so progressive in his learning and proficient as a healer that he surpassed both his teacher Chiron and his father, Apollo. In the discovery chart Chiron in Taurus is opposed to asteroid Asclepius in Scorpio in the 10th house which is about public acclaim and being seen in the world for one’s occupation. Chiron is also trine asteroid Apollo and Saturn in the 8th house of family inheritance or inheritance of wealth.

Asclepius was able to evade death and to bring others back to life from the brink of death and beyond. This caused an excessive abundance of human beings, and biased Zeus resorted to killing Asclepius to maintain balance in the numbers of the human population, as well as his status quo…

According to this article, Asclepius was taught medicine by Chiron, but he was granted supernatural healing abilities from his father. Apollo presided over music, prophecy, plague and healing, which he passed on to his son. Asclepius was naturally adept and expertly trained in administering of medicine to cure illness, performing surgery, incantations and medicinal herbology. The word of his medicinal prowess spread throughout Greece, and he soon became famous for his healing talents. These abilities made Asclepius the focus of considerable attention and JEALOUSY of other gods. But this was not all…

Asclepius’ facial features was strikingly Zeus-like as is evident in the remaining statues and artwork, and this is important…

This was one of the many issues that stirred Zeus’ insecurities and ire… because Zeus had his own goals, desire to appear a certain way in society, and other selfish daydreams about how Greek society had to be, and he did not want those ideals surpassed… which is why he created chaos in underhanded ways in other’s lives.

Both Zeus and Hera felt ‘precious’ about their position in society, and insecure about their appearances in it, as previous articles in the Chiron discovery chart series detailed. Both DISRESPECTED the things that were important to Chiron, like his time, energy, his home, his family, his students, his livelihood, his loving embrace to nurture, and his sincere investment in people’s unique growth and elevation.

Both Zeus and Hera profoundly messed with Chiron’s life via their egotistical, destructive actions, creating INEQUITY.

Perhaps both thought that they could PLAY WITH WHAT HAD MATTERED to Chiron in his face, or that they could get away with foolish bad deeds; playing with his heart. Perhaps gods like Hera and Zeus felt more confident about promoting their own situations, and creating an obstacle course for those they deemed competition and burning them, than they did about giving CREDIT, WORTH and VALUE where it was due. It’s a lack of foresight and betrayal to UNDERESTIMATE VALUABLE PEOPLE who had something profound to contribute to society. The idiots were battling all the wrong things…

Clearly, the likes of biased Zeus and Hera did whatever ENERGETIC MANIPULATION they could to rob others of RESPECT, their DIGNITY, MONEY, a PATHWAY FORWARD, LOVE, FRIENDSHIP etc.

The most important distinction between Chiron and the arrogant towards grand design who opposed him, was that Chiron wasn’t being devious to get what he wanted for himself and in culturing others’ potential. Chiron had to heal from injustice, and shift and move forward into a new reality himself…

Note that Chiron in his own discovery chart was in a GRAND CROSS with Mars’ passion (in square), and some of his students, like Hercules (square) and Asclepius (opposition). Squares and oppositions are tension and opposition filled, and this may be linked to the pain that Chiron obtained from the hydra’s poison from Hercacles’ arrow and the pain from the loss of the potential of Asclepius, as Zeus killed him with a thunderbolt.

Asclepius was Zeus’ own grandson, and Zeus could not stand his TALENT and POTENTIAL, which threatened the gods of Olympus, as well as ‘the natural order of life and death’. Like the Lord of the Underworld Hades (Pluto), Zeus too feared that Asclepius’ extraordinary healing abilities would close the eternal gap between gods and mortals. Clearly there had been a selfish vested interest in getting rid of Asclepius, and keeping the authority and status quo of Zeus, Hades and Hera in place, and the loss of brilliant Aesculapius causing wounding, and breaking Chiron’s heart…

Eris Conjunct Chiron 2024, 2025 and 2026

This information is important as the first Eris conjunct Chiron starts soon, followed by more hits in 2025 and 2026… see the dates below, which is a rough estimate of when the two energies move into close orb…

In Chiron’s myth, he was wounded twice: once at birth via the rejection of others, and the second time toward the end of his life when he had already gained a reputation for being a fine teacher and healer. In astrology, this represents the fact that Chiron is immortalised in the natal/birth chart in a particular position, and then at around age 50, there is a Chiron return, as asteroid, now considered minor planet Chiron had made one revolution around the zodiac, to return to the same spot that it was in, at birth. This is the sore spot and core wounding that is re-experienced, as Chiron can bring up a flood of emotions around this wound and serve as a time to release what's no longer serving, regarding self-doubt or unresolved pain, so that the floodgates can open for healing.

Note that this article was written in the lead up to the 8 April 2024 solar eclipse, which activated Eris conjunct Chiron, as eclipses tend to have a wide, up to 10 degree orb.

Image: Pierre-Narcisse Guérin - The Offering to Asclepius, 1803 via Wikimedia Commons.

Even after his death by Zeus’ thunderbolt, Asclepius’ followers believed that he still had the power to cure illnesses and heal injuries.

According to this website, these worshippers erected a temple dedicated to the demigod called the Asclepeion at Epidaurus, which became the most important healing center in the ancient world. Believers from surrounding areas would come to the temple to stay the night, and it was said that Asclepius himself would come to them in their dreams.

Activities at the Asclepeions provided some of the earliest evidence of western holistic medicine.

As the cult of Asclepius grew, more Asclepeions were constructed in ancient Greece. They also became places of study for future physicians; Marcus Aurelius, Hippocrates and Galen were all said to have received medical training at Asclepeions during their lifetimes.

Greek mythology is known to be the very bedrock of modern civilisation, and it is only fitting then, that many answers to our currently problems, can be found there…

We need mythology, story and legend, in order to live our lives coherently.

Last Words on Chiron Symbolism in this article:

The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.
— Albert Einstein

We have cultured a society that honours the things that superficial Zeus stands for, which is wealth accumulation and the investment in ego mind, however, more people in society are investing in the benefits that comes from soul connectedness… Chiron and those like innovative, thinking-outside-of-the-box individuals like Asclepius were the anthesis of what Zeus and his establishment represented, who wanted to control or alter the trajectory of other’s lives who had found a treasure inside of themselves, which had become quite evident in the social scene.

Energetically, things were made fair for many of those who were influenced by Zeus’ cruel designs against their good fortune.
