This article is part 6 of the Chiron and the Merit Making of the Wise Mentor’s Discovery Chart Series, that looks at the discovery chart of Chiron the great teacher, instructor, and wounded healer. This article will be brief, and in order to understand it fully, one may have to read the previous articles in the series, which is about how Chiron’s half-brother Zeus killed his own grandson Asclepius with his thunderbolt, because his growth and elevation in his occupation (asteroid Asclepius in the 10th house in Chiron’s discovery chart), threatened social leader king of the gods Zeus and his status quo. Zeus had a son called Apollo, who had a son Asclepius who was educated by merit-maker Chiron, who held energetic sensitivity, a moral compass, substance, character and was a man of greatness. However, as was explained in part 5, this merit that Chiron cultured in his many students who became illustrious leaders and role models, was a problem for Zeus, as was also detailed in the Jupiter blog, as Jupiter in Roman mythology, was also Zeus in Greek mythology.

Chiron lived to experience the pain of having one of his star students, who became seen in the public eye as an incredible visionary healer bringing the dead to life, slain by Zeus and his thunderbolt, who saw Asclepius as a threat to his social / political position in Olympus society.

Zeus had a massive problem with men of fine qualities associated with his half-brother Chiron, whose passion it was to culture the highest potential in youths, who would go on to become great leaders. Why? Because Zeus’ biggest fear was being superseded by them. Zeus, as Jupiter the gaseous giant, wanted to be always head honcho, not overthrown like his father Cronus (Saturn) or grandfather Uranus. This article was written as the Full Moon at 4 degrees Scorpio squared Pluto conjunct fixed star Altair in Aquarius, and Uranus and Jupiter in Taurus was in exact conjunction; breakthrough indeed!

This article looks at Zeus’ thunderbolt that he projected at others, and its association with the constellation Aquila the Eagle, and fixed star Altair, and how this is important and prominent in Chiron’s discovery chart.

Chiron was the half man, half centaur who rose from massive rejection, isolation and wounding, OVERCOMING into possibly one of the most valuable, principled, respected men of his time. This information is important, as Eris conjunct Chiron in astrology, in 2024, 2025 and 2026, and understanding the dynamics of this transit, will be important to help humanity, especially since both Eris and Chiron seem to have similar issues, rooted in Greek mythology, with petty antagonists Zeus and jealous Hera at play in both the mythology and discovery charts. Neptune also enters the 29th degree of Pisces, to leave in January 2026, this is likely to resonate with readers a great deal.

Fixed Star Altair in the Constellation Aquila the Eagle in Aquarius

According to the website EarthSky.org, the name Altair is Arabic in origin and has the same meaning as the name of the constellation Aquila in Latin; that is, they both mean simply “eagle.”

In classical mythology Aquila, and by extension Altair as well, was an eagle favored by Zeus, who was famous for taking on appearance other than his own.

The eagle played a part in numerous myths, including the abduction of Ganymede in which Aquila opportunistically carries off a young boy who was a son of one of the kings of Troy, to Mount Olympus on Zeus’ command to become the cupbearer to the gods. In another myth Aquila is the eagle that torments Prometheus, until Hercules shoots it with poisoned arrows.

The constellation Aquila The Eagle, is on the celestial equator and it represents the predatory bird that carried Zeus / Jupiter's thunderbolts in Greek-Roman mythology.

Another astrologer who writes on DarkStarAstrology.com tells a fascinating tale regarding the history of this star and constellation. “Constellation Aquila the Eagle runs from 14º Capricorn to 3º Aquarius in the sky so the Sun aligns with these degrees roughly from January 6 to 25. Altair is its brightest fixed star at 1º 47′ Aquarius, so if your birthday is 20th to 24th January this will be your birth star. The mighty Eagle has been a potent emblem and totem animal throughout history. Three great (or not so great) powers have used it as their symbol, the Roman Empire, the Nazi party and more recently the United States of America. Eagles are a natural logo choice for a superpower. Who wouldn’t want to be compared with an animal known for its long life, majestic looks and great strength? The constellation carries much of the same meaning.”

Astrologer Marina writes that Altair at 1 degree falls in Aquarius Decan 1, (which is where transit Pluto is currently at) and in her research she found some interesting information. For example, the Eagle has the ability to see from great heights but has poor close up vision.

More interestingly, that conquerer Aquila is the TALENT SCOUT, who in mythology, he is Zeus in the form of an eagle that spotted the handsome young Prince Ganymede and snatched him.

According to Wikipedia, Altair is the 12th brightest star in the night sky and the ancient connection to an eagle is quite astonishing, and in comparison to the sun in our solar system, Altair is larger in scale, see the image below.

Zeus as the Eagle Trapping others in Toxic Situations: Leto, Asteria, Ganymede and Aegina

Image: Ganymede via Wikimedia Commons.

There are many examples of Zeus turning himself into an eagle to take actions that harm, isolate or disempower others in the energetic mess of his making, and here is just a few.

According to Wikipedia, Zeus disguising himself as an eagle seems to have been an avenue for him to force himself sexually on others who rejected his advances. Asteria was an inhabitant of Olympus (her sister Leto was seduced by Zeus to bore him a son called Apollo, who was the father of Asclepius) and Asteria was the next to be pursued by his amorous advances. To avoid Zeus coming after her in the form of an eagle, titaness Asteria turned herself into a qual and flung herself into the Aegean Sea. It was there that Asteria metamorphosed into an island. This island was the only place on earth to give refuge to the fugitive Leto when, pregnant with Zeus's children, she was pursued by his vengeful wife Hera.

Zeus also seems to have wanted golden-haired aristocratic beauty Ganymede to be the lover of the gods and personal cupbearer, yet the act of snatching him away from his life and his own destiny as a prince, to be another’s lover, isn’t a loving act… In fact, it is recognised today as the act of someone utterly selfish and opportunistic, who perhaps do not know self-love… for if he had loved himself, he would not be kidnapping innocent people from living their autonomous lives, would he?

According to this source though, Ganymede, in Greek legend, was the son of Tros (or Laomedon), king of Troy. Because of his unusual beauty, he was carried off either by the gods or by Zeus, disguised as an eagle, or, according to a Cretan account, by Minos, to serve as cupbearer. In compensation, Zeus gave Ganymede’s father a stud of immortal horses (or a golden vine). The earliest forms of the myth have no erotic content, but by the 5th century BCE it was believed that Ganymede’s KIDNAPPER had a homosexual passion for him; Ganymede’s kidnapping was a popular topic on 5th-century Attic vases. Besides ABDUCTION, RAPE was also suggested by some sources…

Some sources say that Ganymede was granted immortality and eternal youth, but was that what he had wanted for his own life? He was Zeus’ male CONQUEST, snatched by the talons of the eagle, against his own will. Ganymede wasn’t the only one that Zeus took while disguised as an eagle, as he did the same to Aegina. Zeus abducted her in the form of an eagle and carried her all the way to Oenone, an island near Athens. Her river-god father Asopus followed them and attempted to retrieve his daughter, but Zeus repelled him with his thunder.

In trying to trap others in toxic, shameful or guilt-ridden situations, he was trying to get them stuck to him and in their feelings, so that they could no longer dream their dreams, visualise, feel free, or strive to their ideals. This is not born of love… this is toxic…

Altair the Talent Scout’s Prominent Placing in Chiron’s Discovery Chart and the Tyrannical Targeting of Asclepius

Altair or Aquila as reference to an eagle seems to be associated with multiple aspects, like being an opportunistic talent scout, Zeus in disguise who wanted to trap others, as well as a transportation of the forceful thunderbolts that the power-hungry hurled towards his enemies and those he felt threatened by.

Altair, the eagle, seems have been a method by which Zeus could dial up the charm with great potency, and then force other’s to metaphorically “love him”, and take “his side” socially. In some cases the target did not know his real identity, or could not foresaw his real but hidden intentions for them. Mythology shows that those who anticipated who the eagle might really be, took measures against his charm, which was meant to have a paralysing effect, or his strategy, which based on historic actions, wasn’t that difficult to anticipate… To avert disaster, with the gift of foresight, or listening to inner guidance, saved many the humiliations that befell others…

Previous articles in the Chiron discovery chart series looked into great detail at the Chiron discovery chart, which is why this won’t be repeated.

This article will focus on the GRAND CROSS between Chiron in his own discovery chart at 3 degrees Taurus fourth house, opposing asteroid Asclepius at 1 degree Scorpio tenth house conjunct Pallas Athena at 1 degrees , squaring Mars at 2 degrees Leo in the 8th house, and fixed star Altair at 1 degrees Aquarius in the second house. When studying the discovery charts of asteroids, minor planets, and trans-Neptunian objects, that main aspects made by the asteroid, planet or object, is the most important clue in how to read the main energies of the asteroid/object.

The nature of a grand cross in astrology is GREAT TENSION without a resolution for the conflicting energies. This is a CARDINAL GRAND CROSS that involves combative Mars in Leo opposed to the scouting eyes and opportunistic snatching with talons of fixed star Altair in Aquarius, that is in tension with teacher Chiron and student turned legendary healer Asclepius.

This is the threatening of everything that Chiron as a teacher had built from the fourth house of family wealth, as well as Asclepius’ career, public standing, and massive progress in the public eye that was being envied, as well as his very existence being under fire.

The previous article part 5 was all about Asclepius and his merit, who surpassed his father Apollo and mentor Chiron, and how Pluto (Hades) complained to Zeus about Asclepius raising the dead back to life, which is a symbol for the soul integration back into the human.

There were fears that Asclepius was going to teach others his profound skills, like raising others from the dead, and that this would result in population growth chaos for social engineer Zeus, who in the end did scheme the Trojan War with Themis, to depopulate the earth, ending the Age of Heroes.

Asclepius’ achieved fame, and garnered a lot of envy from other gods, in surpassing both Chiron, and Apollo as Healer and resurrector of the dead.

Also, his Zeus-like facial features inheritance made him one of the most handsome of men in society, along with becoming known as the Greek god of Medicine. These are some of the elements that led to Zeus upending Asclepius’s career and his life.

Exploring Chiron’s Wounding Further because of what Fixed Star Altair and its Forceful Projections to Cut Down in the Discovery Chart Represents…

Fixed star Altair in Chiron’s discovery chart is in the second house of values, resources and worth, in Aquarius, the sign of the exceptional, innovative, unique innovator, and in feeding into the energies of the GRAND CROSS, makes an impact.

Why is another reaching their full potential, them taking full advantage of their natural abilities and appreciation for life, or their achieving their highest level of psychological development, such an issue for Zeus/Jupiter?

Why was their endurance, big picture perception and reaching self-actualisation, his great dissatisfaction? Is it because he is selfish and wanted all those things solely for himself? Why did he feel he had to ensnare others of beauty, innovation, originality, or merit, compromise them, or put them in a cage of his making? In exploring these issues, one starts to understand Chiron’s pain… regarding an asshole who wanted to block others from being their unique best, expressing their talents, and hide them from the world where they can benefit others as well.

Why did he want to make those worthy (2nd house) who excelled, and were unique (Aquarius) feel small, wrong, stagnant or bad about themselves, with his psychological projections regarding their worth, and opposing them in taking action (Mars in opposition) to express themselves (Mars in Leo)? Why was he gaslighting, obsessing and criticising those who create gain for themselves and others? Why did he want to steal their lives, without living and learning?

Why did envious Zeus have to strike down not only his rivals, but also those of beauty, merit, great heart and rapid progression in their personal development or career advancement?

This was further explored on the Jupiter Blog, which was created just as Jupiter conjunct Uranus in Taurus started around April 2024 to enter into orb.

In the reading of all the articles in the Chiron discovery chart series, the full spectrum and nature of Chiron’s wounding becomes quite apparent. It’s about those who want to reach for the stars, but mass consciousness, represented by Zeus, wanted to shoot down those visionary, unique and thriving superstars, in the 10th house of public recognition.

Why is giving others their flowers, their credit, or their acknowledgement for merit, such a problem for gaseous Zeus?

Teacher Chiron was the educated, civilised centaur who would become well versed in many different academic fields, including medicine, music, prophecy and hunting, and it was said by some that Chiron was the inventor of medicine and surgery. Esteemed Greeks sent their sons to be tutored by Chiron.

This entire series explores Chiron’s wound, which is about the egotistical LACK OF RESPECT for the things that were important to Chiron, like the value and worth of his time, his energy, his home base, his family connections, his students, and his sincere investment and devotion in nurturing young boys into growth and expansion, in a balanced way.

Chiron was able to help and allow others their full potential, inner alignment and autonomy, being gracious enough to give them their flowers, but half-brother Zeus was too self-indulgent for any of that… Chiron served other’s best interest, and Zeus just wanted to be served and catered to, not giving a flying f**k about others true wellbeing, wanting to throw them off balance instead.

The Very Heart of the Problem in Chiron’s Discovery Chart as Seen Through Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs

Chiron was a man with a heart of gold who suffered tremendously from wounding of various kinds, as was described in previous articles, but also had the wisdom to know when to lay down the sword and elevate into a new life, which is what he did when he was immortalised as the brightest constellation in the night sky, Centaurus.

Zeus was the man who refused to learn the lessons represented by the 9th house and Sagittarius. In fighting others and not allowing them to follow their great fortune and strive for higher ideals and their own self-actualisation, that is what Zeus missed out on, as was explained in the Jupiter blog. He threatened others who he felt threatened by; this means that the person who has THE PROBLEM, that they refuse to look at, or deal with, is ignorant, smarty-pants Zeus himself. Judging, gaslighting others that they are the source of the problem, and projecting his own issues on others, was just a waste of time… Why?

Maslow’s famous hierarchy of needs is described on many various articles on the internet, and perceived as the art of self-actualisation. The concept was first introduced by psychologist Abraham Maslow. It is perceived the top growth need for human beings and represents the full realisation of human potential. This is the fulfilment that many humans chase after while on this planet. This website describes examples of self-actualisation, as including realising your dreams, being true to yourself, and achieving inner peace. Maslow referred to the unique potential of each person in his hierarchy of needs. If a person is able to meet the needs of each of the first four levels, they can eventually reach the top level, which he called Self-Actualisation.

Chiron in Taurus in the fourth house conjunct Sedna is a great example of the great challenge to create the stability, security and secure base of protection, at the lower levels of Maslow’s pyramid. Zeus or Jupiter, along with the attainment of his CONTROL desires through the eagle, is a great example of the man who didn’t take care of the lower bases, yet wanted all the benefits of the top levels, and when the bully found that he could not achieve this, he would become a wreaking ball to ruin it for others, to be the only one left, taking on appearances as having it all.

As is quite evident, Zeus wanted to DESTROY other’s Maslow hierarchy of needs, so that he could get what he self-indulgently desired. However, he went about it all the wrong way… and on careful big picture consideration, he didn’t really get any of the levels listed above, with wife Hera giving him hell at home… perhaps even from a certain point of view, giving him what he gave others… In one way or another, you reap what you sow, and if it is bad seeds… well…

Greek mythology is known to be the very bedrock of modern civilisation, and it is only fitting then, that many answers to our currently problems, can be found there…

We need mythology, story and legend, in order to live our lives coherently.

Eris Conjunct Chiron 2024, 2025 and 2026

This information is important as the first Eris conjunct Chiron starts soon, followed by more hits in 2025 and 2026… see the dates below, which is a rough estimate of when the two energies move into close orb…

In Chiron’s myth, he was wounded twice: once at birth via the rejection of others, and the second time toward the end of his life when he had already gained a reputation for being a fine teacher and healer. In astrology, this represents the fact that Chiron is immortalised in the natal/birth chart in a particular position, and then at around age 50, there is a Chiron return, as asteroid, now considered minor planet Chiron had made one revolution around the zodiac, to return to the same spot that it was in, at birth. This is the sore spot and core wounding that is re-experienced, as Chiron can bring up a flood of emotions around this wound and serve as a time to release what's no longer serving, regarding self-doubt or unresolved pain, so that the floodgates can open for healing.
